Chapter 4: Birthday“SURPRISE HAPPY BIRTHDAY NESSIE!” I blushed wow! i never really celebratedmy birthday. My mom said it wasn’t neccessary so i just got a few presents. Ofcourse my biggest gift was a shopping spree. On a banner it said in bright colors‘Happy sweet 16th!’ so we were celebrating cus it was my sweet 16th b-day. Thatwould make sense. And i suppose i will have a big birthday bash on my 18, and 40thbirthday.“Wow you guys thanks!” i yelled. Carlisle, Esme, Jasper, Alice, Emmett,Rosalie, Bella, Edward, Sue, obviousley Charlie, Billy, and the whole entire packof 18 were here. It looked like the whole city was joining us. Their were flowerseverywhere, and balloons all over the place. Candles were being lit by Esme. Therewas a table filled with presents galore. In the corner was a table filled withrefreshments (especialy since the Quilette kids were here) There was also a hugeCake on a beautiful glass table. “Thanks sooooo much, it’s beautiful!” I wasjumping with excitment. I hugged everyone saving Edward for last. He whispered inmy ear. “How was your day.” I looked up to see that he had a huge smile on hisface. I gave him a thumbs up.“See there was never anything to worry about.”Then Alice came dancing in “Your so right” she pranced. Singing to a song by 'TheSinging Pixies' Then hugged me "Happy Sweet 16!" I smiled hugely. "Thankyou" ireplied. Alice skipped to the stereo on this mini stage she set up and startedturning out Over head lights and turning on Disco lights and cool Lava lamps andall sorts af cool lights that were around the whole house. I would have thought wewere at a Dance. I was Surprised the neighboors didn't call the cops on us for theloud bass and all the noise we were making, but their were two things. One we haveno neighboors because were in the woods, but the only ones that would have hadcomplained were the squirrels. Two Chief Swan is joining the party, so it would beironic that a neighboor were to call a cop, because their was already one here. Ichuckeled to myself. I was walking around talking to guests and what not whenthings were changed up a bit when Alice grabbed the mique and started to sing. Sonow were playing Kareoke? After a few songs of Emmett attempting to sing MariahCarey and Seth singing a Veggie Tales song everyone started doing there ownactivites. Charlie and Emmett were watching the Sports station on the TV in theDen. Billy and Carlisle were playing chess and a few others watched. It was verypleasant. I mingled around talking to people and dancing to a song or two withfriends. When i finally made my way to the Deck where the piano was moved, i sawmy father playing songs for Bella. He was on the stool and Bella leaned on thewall watching him. If she could have cried she would have. I stood on the glassdoorway for a while watching, listening to the beautiful music when someone tappedmy shoulder. I turned around to see Jacob smiling a huge goofy smile. There waslight in his eyes and he was glowing under the moon light that shined on his facein the doorway."Can i have this dance Birthday girl?" He said with his hand extended outinches from mine, just waiting for mine to fit perfectly into his warm palm."Yes, you can have this dance" I said smiling warmly and placing my hand inhis. We walked out onto the Deck, where a few other people slow danced to myfathers music. The moon was perfectly above us, shining making the Hot tub we hadglow too. At first it was awkwardly silent, but then we warmed up and startedmuttering to each other. He turned my face from his shoulder so we could belooking at each other."I like being able to see your eyes." He smiled, then i blushed. But i mustof had a small tear in my eye. I was just so happy, that my emotions were allwrong. I never really cryed sad tears. Then he frowned when he saw my eyes withmoisture."No crying on your Birthday." he said"Their not sad tears silly." I said slightly chuckling as i whiped them frommy face. He took his finger and took away a tear that i missed.
 
"Your happy" It was not a question. "I'm glad." He said smiling. But thenhis face turned seriouse. "But do you think that you could have something else tomake you happier, do you ever feel like your missing something...or Someone?" whatkind of question is that."Well, i guess....maybe. Why?" I said as He shrugged"I don't know, just wondering.""Okay.." I said a little confused. I changed the subject " honestly, I wasobliviouse to the fact that it was my Birthday (i chuckled) I totally forgot, imlosing track of the dates." I smiled." I know, i was seriously thinking you turned blondy on me, i was going tohave to start calling you Rosalie, the Golden Retriever." His whole body shookwith laughter underneath my fingers."Oh Jake shut up!" I said lightly smacking his arm. I smiled again to myselfsetting my chin on his shoulder again. Everything felt right.Then Alice was on the Microphone talking, or trying to crack jokes. Then inthe mist of the comotion going on in the house i heard my name being said in themique. It was Alice. I started walking toward the living room. Jacob followedbehind all the while with his hand still in mine. But Alice, said my name. Sheintroduced me to the 'audience' and told me to get on the stage to sing. No wait!SING! in front of people. Well a bunch of wolves, vampires and a few humans? She'dhave to be crazy to do have me sing a song in front of everyone. I only sangaround her. I mean she told me i had a 'beautiful Voice' but its not like ibelieved her. I shook my head back and forth. Flodding tomatoe red. (im not sureif it was out of embarrasment, or anger) Jacob let go of my hand and asked."You sing?" he really meant it when he asked me"NO! Alice is just...just Crazy. I cant believe shes going to make me singin front of everyone!" I was becoming heated with anger"C'mon Nessie" Alice waved me over, but she was still talking in themicrophone. I stomped up there huffing and puffing all the while, grabbed hershoulder and took her aside."WHAT ARE YOU DOING!" I Demanded trying my best to whisper, but it didnthelp that she had the Mic, still in her hand. "Can you turn that off please." Isounded sort of rude saying it, but what she was doing was even ruder. Making mesing in front of people. What was she thinking. Is this one of her jokes. Cus thisone Is Not! funny. I asked again "What do you think your doing, making me sing.""Well....i wanted you to sing because its just so beautiful when you do, bythe way your singing 'a whole new world' from your favorite movie when you wereyounger. Especially since your becoming older, the world of Love and happinesswill change in many ways, and it may seem like a whole new world. So i thoughtthis would be good insperation." I smirked. Oh so this is about my soon to comelove life, not buying it. "Nope im not doing it, i refuse." I pouted and stompedmy foot down."Carefull there i could always just drag you up there and you know i woul-"I cut her off, i didnt want her to drag me, cus she meant it. She probably woulddrag me on to the little stage. "Fine Fine Fine." Im Crazy! I screamed in my head.She smiled."Thats what i thought." grrrrrr!!!!!!! I flooded tomatoe red again (thistime with anger) and stomped onto the stage Everyone started chanting inencouragment. To the sound of there voices yelling 'Nessie! Nessie!" I turned tolook at the crowd and then froze. It wasnt that many people, but it lookedlike....thousands of people suddenly. Alice was introducing me. I was still frozenwhen i realized she already started the music. Oh Crap! I opened my mouth to sing.It was shaky but not bad. I tryed not to look at there faces but when i caughtsite of Edward i immediatly calmed down. He put two thumbs up and smiled wide. Ilooked to see my mother next to him smiling too. Next to her was jasper and withthe site of Jasper i immediatly calmed down. My voice stopped shaking and i beganto enjoy myself. I looked back over to my father but he wasnt there anymore? Thechorus was coming up. I took a deep breath and sang the high notes " A whole New
 
worl-" O wtopped short hearing another voice with me. I looked over to find myfather singing with me. He was on his piano, but it was moved from the deck, toright next to the little stage. He was playing along to the music singing into amic. We were in perfect harmony. It was so odd, to hear my father sing to me.(even though he used to sing me lullabies when i was little.) It was even betterthough. Alice set this up so that it would be a father/daughter moment. I listenedto the lyrics carefully. "I can show you the world" which my father said. Madesense. Im guessing this is our new version of 'the boy talk' This was him allowingme to go into my new world of dating. My new life as a 16year old. My new life,but with the same and loving family! Always and forever. I was so happy that i wassafe and sound that i was crying a little again. When the song finally closed thewhole room applauded. Edward came up to me and hugged me."Thanks dad" I said"Your welcome sweet heart, you looked like you could use some help, you werenervous.""Well im glad you did help me. And tell jasper i said he was helpfull too.""I will."A few others hugged me too. Jacob howled Encore! (definitly not singing again)People told me i did a great job. They told me i should sing more often. Well thatworked out nicely. I didnt mind singing, but i was still mad at Alice. I she couldhave told me before hand so i could have prepared myself.Then Alice yelled "PRESENT TIME!" yaaay presents (sarcasticly) I alwaysthought Alice was over the top with presents. So i say i dont mind recieving giftsthen she fills closets with presents. 20 is enough! i dont need 50. She dragged meover to the table with the gifts then shoved a silver box into my face. She was soexcited, adn jumpy. i thought she was going to blow up like a time bomb."Open mine first!" She demanded looking a little scary for a minuite."umm okay, you dont have to threaten""Yes i do!" she squeeled clapping her hands together like a London Tiptonmoment. "Now open it!" She said, her voice raised in volume a little. Bella calledfrom somewhere in the crowded circle. "Don't get a paper cut." She laughed"Huh?" i asked. Jaspers eyes narrowed and Edwards stiffened beside me.Carlise spoke. "its a, sort of a inside joke." He said hesitantly"Figures" i said sarcastically. Alice was yelling now "JUST OPEN IT!" jeezmiss impatient, whats caught up in your butt, what a rabbit? miss craaannnkky!Edward laughed. I smiled. Somebody was listening to my joke. Alice flashed him aevil look. " i swear if you don't open this i wi-""I am about to open it Alice calm down!." she huffed and did a little hmmffnoice under her breath while flicking her hair back. Yep there was definitly arabbit up her skinny butt. I took the ribbon off and opened the box to find aticket for room make overs. "wow thanks alice" i yelled putting extra enthusiasmonto it, so she would be happy. I hugged her."I knew you would like it." she said approvingly Alice passed the next giftto me. It was a huge box, and it was from Emmett. The wrapping paper had bears allover it, thats how i knew it was from Emmett. The Box was very light. I took thebox lid off andlooked inside to find another box and then inside that box wasanother box and then finally i saw the last box. Which was empty. Bella scoffed."umm...thanks Emmett?" Emmett laughed his loud grizzly bear laugh."Now why would you do that to her, its alright for you to do it to me, butreally...my daughter?" Bella complained"Oh please little sis, heres the real present." He handed me a tiny wrappedbox. It had balloons on it. He rolled his eyes at Bella and stuck his tongue outat her. I rolled my eyes myself, realizing that my father did that same thing too.Probably thinking they were acting childish. Atleast thats how i felt. Edwardknodded and smiled. I tore off the paper and found a Ipod, with a variety of songsone it."Thought you would need a new one since the one you got from your dad isgetting old, but all the songs from your old one are on it and more." Emmett said.
