Report from: Report to: Date Ladywood District Ward Support Officer Nechells Ward Committee Meeting 20 March 2014 Pat Whyte Purpose of the information briefing note To outline for the Nechells Ward Committee, the criteria for allocation of Community Chest 2014/15. 1. Background Context The Community Chest programme is in line with Birminghams sustainable Community Strategy 2026 and the Council Plan 2008 to 2013. S1 Localism Act 2011 gives the City Council a general power of competence where the function is not otherwise prohibited. The ward committee has the delegated decision making powers concerning Community Chest within the Ward under the constitution. The Nechells Ward Committee will receive 50,000 Community Chest Fund for the financial year from 1 April 2014 to 31 March 2015. 2. 3.1. 3.2. 3.3. 3.4. Recommendation for Nechells Ward Community Chest 2014/15 Given the reduction of Community Chest. This years programmed will be informed by a general statement of local priorities reflecting the Council Plan and any other local targets. Facilitate the delivery of the programme and continuation of some schemes from 2013/14. 50,000 to be allocated to support significant infrastructure projects as set out below. 7,000 to be allocated to support local organisation and projects. Maximum funding available and can be applied for up 500 per community groups and small organisations. Used as contribution e.g. purchasing essential equipment and other capital projects not revenue projects. Remaining 43,000 community chest will be used, as in 3.2. Continue to address issues such; Improvement to local Parks and Streets; Fly tipping, the Environment, support training back into employment and Community Safety (alleyway gating).
