DEWATERING NOTES: 1. THE CONTRACTOR IS HEREBY MADE AWARE THAT THE NYCDPR HAS NO CONTROL OVER INFLOWS INTO THE WORK AREA. MAJOR RAINFALL EVENTS MAY CAUSE THE WATER LEVEL IN THE BASINS TO RISE AND LEAD TO POTENTIAL INUNDATION OF THE WORK SITE. WHERE THE CONTRACTOR PROPOSES TO REMOVE GROUNDWATER FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE EXCAVATION BY SUMPING AS APPROVED BY THE RESIDENT ENGINEER, THE SUMP SHALL BE SURROUNDED BY A SUITABLE FILTER TO PREVENT REMOVAL OF SOIL FINES. SETTLING TANKS SHALL BE CONSTRUCTED OF METAL WITH WATERTIGHT SEAMS AND SUFFICIENT STIFFNESS TO ACCOMMODATE FULL TANK LEVELS. TANKS SHALL BE SIZED TO PROVIDE SUFFICIENT RESIDENCE TIME COMMENSURATE WITH PUMPING RATES AND SEDIMENT GRAIN SIZE. BAFFLES AND BOOMS SHALL BE PROVIDED AS NEEDED. PUMPS, CONDUIT, PIPES, AND/OR SIPHONS USED AT THE SITE SHALL BE SIZED ACCORDINGLY AND SHALL BE MAINTAINED IN GOOD WORKING ORDER. SEDIMENT, EROSION, AND WATER CONTROL NOTES: 1. THE SCOPE OF WORK FOR SEDIMENT & EROSION CONTROL SHALL INCLUDE THE INSTALLATION OF STRAW BALE DIKE/SILT FENCE AS SHOWN AND AS NEEDED ELSEWHERE. THIS WORK SHALL ALSO INCLUDE MONITORING, CLEANING, MAINTENANCE, AND REPAIR/REPLACEMENT OF ALL INSTALLED STRAWBALE/SILT FENCE AND THE PROPER REMOVAL AND DISPOSAL OF STRAW BALE DIKE/SILT FENCING AFTER FINAL STABILIZATION OF THE SITE. ALL WORK SHALL COMPLY WITH ALL CODES, RULES, REGULATIONS, LAWS, AND ORDINANCES AND EXECUTED IN CONFORMANCE WITH ANY PERMITS, LICENSES ETC., AS ISSUED BY THE CITY OF NEW YORK, NEW YORK STATE DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION, U.S. ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY, AND ALL OTHER AUTHORITIES HAVING JURISDICTION WITHIN THE PROJECT AREA. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL SUBMIT A WATER CONTROL PLAN TO THE NYCDPR FOR REVIEW AND MAY, AT THAT TIME, PROPOSE ALTERNATIVE WATER CONTROL STRATEGIES. THE CONTRACTOR'S PLAN SHALL BE DESIGNED TO ACCOUNT FOR THE ANTICIPATED WORK PLAN, CONSTRUCTION SEQUENCE, AND ANTICIPATED LEVEL OF DISTURBANCE. NO MATERIALS SHALL BE DISPERSED OR STOCKPILED IN ANY AREAS BEYOND THE AUTHORIZED LIMITS OF DISTURBANCE, EXCEPT FOR AREAS SPECIFICALLY DESIGNATED FOR SPOIL DISPOSAL. MATERIALS REJECTED FOR USE IN THE WORK SHALL BE REMOVED AND DISPOSED OF AS SOON AS PRACTICAL TO DO SO. TAKE ADDITIONAL STEPS AS NECESSARY TO MINIMIZE SEDIMENTATION AND SILTATION WITHIN WORK AREAS AND ELIMINATE SEDIMENTATION AND SILTATION OUTSIDE OF WORK AREAS THROUGHOUT THE CONDUCT OF THE WORK. FOLLOWING INITIAL SETUP OF SEDIMENT AND EROSION CONTROLS, THE SITE SHALL BE INSPECTED BY THE NYCDPR, RESIDENT ENGINEER, AND ENGINEERING DESIGN CONSULTANT. NO WORK CAN CONTINUE UNTIL THE EROSION CONTROLS MEET THE APPROVAL OF THE NYCDPR DAMAGED OR LOOSE STRAWBALES, SILTATION FENCE OR OTEHR CONTROL MEASURES SHALL BE REPLACED AS NECESSARY TO MAINTAIN THEIR FUNCTION OF CONTROLLING SEDIMENTATION AND SILTATION. REMOVE ANY ACCUMULATION OF SILT OR SOIL BUILD-UP BEHIND SILT FENCES AS IT OCCURS. FOLLOWING PERIODIC CLEANING OF ALL SEDIMENTATION CONTROLS AND UPON COMPLETION OF THE USE OF THE CONTROLS, THE ACCUMULATED SEDIMENT SHALL BE ALLOWED TO DRY PRIOR TO TRANSPORTING TO LAWFUL OFF-SITE UPLAND DISPOSAL AREAS OR ON-SITE DISPOSAL LOCATIONS DESIGNATED BY THE ENGINEER. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL REPAIR AND DAMAGE RESULTING FROM SEDIMENTATION OR SILTATION DURING THE WORK AND RESTORE PROPERTY TO ITS PRIOR CONDITION AT NO ADDITIONAL COST TO THE NYCDPR. ADDITIONAL EROSION AND SEDIMENTATION CONTROL NECESSARY TO DEAL WITH TRANSIENT CONDITIONS ON THE SITE SHALL BE PROVIDED BY THE CONTRACTOR AS NEEDED. AFTER THE SITE HAS BEEN FULLY STABILIZED AGAINST EROSION AND UPON APPROVAL OF THE RESIDENT ENGINEER, REMOVE SEDIMENT CONTROL DEVICES AND ACCUMULATED SILT. LEGALLY DISPOSE OFF-SITE ALL ACCUMULATED SILT AND ALL SEDIMENTATION AND SILTATION CONRTOL DEVICES SUCH AS, BUT NOT LIMITED TO SILTATION FENCING, SAND BAGS, AND OTHER RELATED PRODUCTS. ON-SITE DISPOSAL OF CLEAN SEDIMENTS IN UPLAND AREA SHALL BE ALLOWED ONLY WITH THE EXPRESS APPROVAL OF THE NYCDPR.

STRAWBALE AND SILT FENCE NOTES: 1. BALES SHALL BE PLACED WHERE SPECIFIED ON DRAWINGS IN A ROW WITH ENDS TIGHTLY ABUTTING THE ADJACENT BALES. STRAW BALES SHALL BE COMPOSED ONLY OF THE DRY STOCK OF A CEREAL PLANT CONTAINING NO LIVING PLANT MATERIAL OR SEED PRODUCT. EACH BALE SHALL BE EMBEDDED IN THE SOIL A MINIMUM OF FOUR (4) INCHES, AND PLACED SO THE BINDINGS ARE HORIZONTAL. BALES SHALL BE SECURELY ANCHORED IN PLACE BY TWO WOODEN STAKES DRIVEN THROUGH THE BALE. THE FIRST STAKE SHALL BE DRIVEN TOWARD THE PREVIOUSLY LAID BALE AT AN ANGLE TO FORCE THE BALES TOGETHER. STAKES SHALL BE DRIVEN FLUSH WITH THE BALE. SILTATION FENCE SHALL BE "ENVIROFENCE" AS MANUFACTURED BY MIRAFI INC. OR APPROVED EQUIVALENT. IF NECESSARY, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE A BACKING MESH TO PROVIDE STABILITY TO THE SILT FENCE FABRIC AGAINST BLOW OVER OR KNOCK DOWN. WHEN TWO SECTIONS OF FILTER CLOTH ADJOIN EACH OTHER THEY SHALL BE OVERLAPPED BY SIX INCHES AND FOLDED . INSPECTION SHALL BE FREQUENT AND REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT SHALL BE MADE PROMPTLY AS NEEDED. SEDIMENT SHALL BE REMOVED WHEN ACCUMULATIONS REACH 1/3 ABOVE THE GROUND HEIGHT OF THE BARRIER BALES SHALL BE REMOVED WHEN THEY HAVE SERVED THEIR USEFULNESS SO AS NOT TO BLOCK OR IMPEDE STORM FLOW OR DRAINAGE. STRAWBALE/SILT FENCE BARRIER PLACED ON EMBANKMENT FACE SHALL BE SECURED USING SANDBAGS.
