Only a short hop from the UAE is the ancient city ofPetra in Jordan. Carved into the red rock faces, thisancient Nabataean city was built around 100 BC,but is still considered one of the ‘modern’ sevenwonders of the world and is beautifully preserved.Petra is a jaw dropping destination no matter whatyou intend to do once you’ve arrived. Even more soif you decide to stay a few days and learn how tocook traditional Middle Eastern fare such as babaghanoush, fattoush and sambousek b’jibn.Whilst you’ll arrive in Jordan’s capital, Amman,you’ll soon head to Petra via Mt Nebo, which looksover the Dead Sea, and roll your sleeves up thatvery evening to get stuck into learning how tomake the delicacies at Petra Kitchen. The cookingschool is run by local women who will teach youold family recipes, passed down for generations.For the next three days you’ll spend part of theday exploring Petra and nearby crusader forts andshopping at local markets for ingredients and thensettle down in the evenings to learn how to maketypical Jordanian dishes including honey drencheddesserts and melt in your mouth kebabs. It’s aschedule that is both relaxing and stimulating –full of history, culture, conversation and of course,eating!
