7739 eric.scott@chsfl.org Childrens Home Society Honors Child Advocates during Awards Luncheon JACKSONVILLE (March 20, 2014) Childrens Home Society of Florida, Buckner Division hosted its annual Under the Tent awards luncheon today to recognize and honor outstanding individuals and organizations for their work in the interest of local children. WJXT Channel 4 anchor Rob Sweeting emceed the event and as he announced each award, more than 150 people gathered on the CHS campus in support and admiration of the esteemed honorees. The Foster Parent of the Year was Vanessa Austin. Since 2011, she has taken in children of all ages, with a variety of therapeutic needs. She also serves as a mentor for other parents, offering advice and support. Donald and Mary Riggle were awarded Volunteers of the Year for their service to CHS. They have devoted their time and talents to the after-school program that provides homework assistance to children and teens living on campus. Acosta Sales and Marketing claimed the Corporate Citizen of the Year award for its generous initiatives benefiting CHS and many other charities. Acosta has been a Caring Chefs sponsor since 2004, gradually increasing its support each year. Jacksonville City Councilman Don Redman was named Public Official of the Year for his child advocacy legislative work. He is an advocate for our needs and is always willing to offer support and endorsements for CHS. Child Advocate of the Year was presented to Wolfson Childrens Hospital President Michael D. Aubin, FACHE, Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives. His passion for childrens health and well-being improves the lives of many First Coast children.
