Greedy King King Midas is a greedy king. He wants a lot of gold. A fairy grants him his wish. Everything he touches turns to gold. King Midas is happy. Then, his princess runs to hug him. Alas! She turns to gold as well. King Midas becomes an unhappy king.

Chee Sengs Birthday Today is Chee Sengs eighty birthday. He is opening the presents from him classmates. Chee Sengs mother is bringing out the cheese cake. Chee Sengs father is greeting their neighbours Mr and Mrs Jeethra. Mr Jeethra is holding a present for Chee Seng. Mrs Jeethra is holding a bowl of spaghetti.

My Town This is my town. The cinema, the market, the bank and the bookshop are on the Oak Street. I can watch movies at the cinema. My mother can buy vegetables at the market. I buy books from the books hop. I love my town.

Lion and the Mouse One day, a big lion caught a little mouse. The mouse begged for its life, so the lion let it go. The next day, the lion was caught in a net. It could not free itself. The mouse heard the lions roar. It bit the net and free the lion.

The Ugly Duckling Six little yellow ducklings and big grey duckling hatch out of some eggs. The farm animals call the grey duckling ugly duckling as it is different. The ugly duckling is sad. One day, the ugly duckling sees its reflection in a lake. It has grown up to become a beautiful swan. Alices Family Alice has a happy family. There are four members in her family. They are her father, mother, brother and Alice. On weekends, her parents bring them to the library. Alices brother always helps their father to wash the car. Alice helps her mother to cook and clean the house. Alice loves her family.

Hota wanted to eat them. Kayan immediately asked Hota to eat him first. Suteran also did the same. Hota knew they were good friends and let them go free.

My Loved Ones My little brother, Bobby, is two years old. He is small and cute. He likes to play hide-and-seek. I always play with him. I help my mother to take care of Bobby. I know how to make milk for him. Sometimes I bathe him. It is fun bathing him. He always gets my clothes wet.

Tales That Teach One day a fox invited a stork to lunch. He prepared a tasty soup and served it in a very shallow dish. The stork could not eat anything because of his long beak. Soon after, the stork asked the fox to dinner. He put the food in a jug with a narrow neck. The fox could not get his nose into it. So he did not get to eat the food. The fox promised not to play mean tricks on others again.

A Farm Experience Vi Nees father came home with a rattan basket. There were five baby chicks in the basket. Vi Nee and her brother were very happy. They took the chicks out and put them in the backyard. The chicks ran around the backyard flapping their wings. Three of them had soft yellow feathers and the other two had black feathers. Vi Nee and her brother put some seeds on a small dish. They also gave the chicks a dish of water.

Sharing Is Caring Long ago in Kedah, there lived a farmer. His name was Kassim. He had a paddy field. Kassim did not own a tractor. He borrowed a tractor to plough the field. Then he planted rows of paddy. Slowly, the paddy plants grew. One day, Kassim saw some crows. They were eating the grains of rice. He chased them away. An old lady advised Kassim to share the grains. He listened to her. He stopped chasing the crows away. The next day, the paddy field glowed. Kassim was very happy.

Visit to the Farm Saturday, Sheila and her family visited a farm in Seri Kembangan. Sheila was very excited. When they reached the farm, they went to see the cows first. The cows were in a field on the farm. They were eating grass. Next, they went to see the goats. Sheila fed the goats some hay. Sheila and her family went home after the trip. They had a fun time.

Safety First Kevin and his friends were playing football in the field. Soon it started to rain heavily. They quickly took shelter under a big tree. Then they saw their teacher waving to them from the canteen. They quickly ran towards him. Their teacher said, it is dangerous to shelter under a tree in the rain. Suddenly, there was a flash of lightnin g. The boys were shocked to see a huge branch fall onto the field.

What We Enjoy Doing Min Tat was feeling very happy. He was having his first lesson on rock climbing. His brother helped him with his safety tools. Slowly and carefully, he took his first step up the wall. He continued climbing with a lot of support from him brother and instructor.

Lend a Hand Ah Nie and Nadia are best friends. On the first Saturday of every month, they help out at an orphanage. They always bring books for the orphans. They collect old storybooks from their classmates. Sometimes, they use their own money to buy new books for the children.

Let Us Celebrate Encik Adi and his family celebrate Hari Raya. They go to the mosque to pray. Encik Adi wears a black songkok and red baju Melayu. Hadi wears a brown songkok and green baju Melayu. Puan Anis, Sabrina and Lily wear colourful baju kurung. Puan Anis prepares ketupat, rending and other food. They invite the neighbours for lunch. They celebrate Hari Raya happily.

Mary and Her Family Mary and her family live together happily. They always take care of and help each other. Every Sunday, Mary helps her mother to sweep and mop the floor. Her sister, Susan, helps to cook and wash the dishes. Her brother, Andy, helps their father to cut the grass. Marys mother always takes good care of them. She prepares healthy meals and makes sure they have clean clothes to wear. Marys father helps them with their schoolwork. They love and respect each other.

Thaipusam Amanda celebrates Thaipusam every year. It is a three-day festival. Hindus and tourists walk up the 272 steps to the temple in Batu Caves. Hindus break coconuts and shave their heads before entering the temple. They also carry milk pots and the kavadi.

Orphanage Last week, news about Sunshine Orphanage appeared in the newspaper. There are twelve orphans aged from six to fifteen years old living there. In one week, they need about three bags of rice. The orphanage depends on the kindness of the public. When the news was reported, many people donated food and money to the orphanage. A company gave the orphanage eight packets of rice, six bottles of oil, nine tins of biscuits and many more. The company also presented the orphanage with RM10 000 to help ease the burden.

Honest Act Last Monday morning, Gina was on her way to school. She waited for the bus at the bus stop. When the bus arrived, she boarded the bus. The bus was nearly empty so there were many seats. She walked to the back of the bus and sat down. Then, she noticed a wallet on the floor. She gave it to her teacher when she reached school.

A Visit To The Zoo Last Sunday, Jimmy and his family went to the zoo. They saw many animals there. Jimmy took pictures of some monkeys. Suddenly, he heard a voice yelling Lion escape! Lion escape! His parents heard it too. Jimmy, wanted to take pictures of the escaped lion but he did not see any animal out of its cage.

Rescue The Mousedeer One day, Kadir was looking for firewood in the forest. He wanted to sell the firewood at the market. Suddenly, he heard an animal cry out in pain. He followed the sound and saw a mousedeer. It had fallen into a hole. Kadir felt sorry for it so he rescued the mousedeer.

Security Guard Mr Siva is a security guard in a shopping centre. One of his duties is going on patrols to make sure everything is all right. He looks out for thieves. He bring along torchlight and a baton. No robbery has ever happened at Mr Sivas workplace because of his diligence.

An Incident Ginny arrived school early in the morning. As she was about to enter her classroom, she heard a voice from her classroom. She took a peek inside but the room was dark. Suddenly, a hand grabbed her and pulled her inside the classroom. She tried to scream but her mouth was covered. She bit the hand and ran to the office. She told a teacher about the frightening incident. The teacher called the police immediately. The policemen found an insane man and took him to the police station.

A Lesson Deva was a careless boy. His father gave him a pencil case for his birthday. However, he lost it the next day. He called his friends to ask about his pencil case. Luckily, Adam had kept it for him. He found it in the school bus. That evening, Adam returned the pencil case to Deva. Deva was very happy to get his precious present back. He promised to be careful next time. An Unfortunate day for Joe It was a recess time. The pupils rushed out of the classrooms and raced to the canteen. It was crowded and noisy. There was a long queue at the stall. Joe was carrying a plate of noodles. Suddenly, a boy crashed into Joe and split hot soup over Joes left arm. It was very painful. His teacher bandaged his arm. Joe was very upset.

A School Project Our schools Environment Club organized a recycling campaign last week. We had to collect old newspaper, plastic bottles and glass bottles. We searched for these items in our neighbourhood. We gathered all the recyclable items in the school hall. After a week, a truck came and the driver weighed them. Then, his assistant gave us some money for the items. After one month, we had collected a lot of money from this campaign. We gave the money to the headmaster. He bought new benches for us to sit during recess.

Deepavali Siva and his family celebrate Deepavali every year. They decorate their house with oil lamps. On the morning of Deepavali, they have an oil bath. They wear new clothes and go to the temple to pray. When they return home, they receive their friends and relatives. Then they serve them delicious food.

A Family Trip Last school holidays, David and his family went to Kota Kinabalu. They had a smooth flight. They reached Kota Kinabalu at night. They stayed in a three-star hotel. The room was big and the beds were comfortable. They visited many interesting places, such as Mount Kinabalu and Gaya Walk. They took a lot of pictures and bought a lot of souvenirs for their friends and relatives.

An Accident Last week, Meena was walking home from school. She saw three boys cycling abreast. They were talking happily. A car was speeding. Meena shouted but the boys did not hear her. The car knocked the boys down and sped away. The boys fell down and were unconscious. A crowd had gathered. Meena telephoned the ambulance and police. Soon they arrived.

Lost and Found Yesterday there was a sale at a shopping mall. Rubys parents took her there. It was crowded. Ruby saw a teddy bear on display. Her parents did not notice her looking at it. They left her behind and walked around the mall. Ruby started to cry when she lost her parents. A guard brought her to the reception and made an announcement. Rubys parents soon came looking for her.

Good Samaritans One day, Anna and Siew Min were walking home from school. In front of them was an old lady carrying three plastic bags. The bags were heavy. Suddenly, the old lady tripped and fell. Her things were scattered all over. The girls quickly helped the old lady. Luckily, she was not hurt. They picked up her things and carried the bags to her house. The old lady thanked them.

Teachers Day It was Teachers Day last Wednesday. When Miss Siew entered her classroom, she was pleasantly surprised. There were many presents on her table. They were from her pupils. She was very touched and thanked her pupils for the presents. In return, her pupils also thanked her for teaching them well.

Dental Check Up Siew Mei is at the dental clinic. A dentist is checking her teeth. She visits the dentist twice a year. The dentist advises her to brush her teeth twice a day. He also advises her to avoid sweet food and drinks before going to bed.

Birthday It was the happiest day in Mei Chings life. Her tenth birthday party was held earlier today. She received many presents from her friends and family members. One by one, she opened them. The presents might not be expensive, but all of them meant a lot to her. Deep down in her heart, she was thankful to everyone who had make her birthday so unforgettable.

A Stewardess Miss Sylvia is a stewardess. She works on an aeroplane. She loves her job because she likes to meet and serve people. Other than that, she also enjoys travelling. Through her job, she is able to visit many countries. She has visited 15 countries so far. She hopes to visit more countries in future.

Thankful Last Saturday evening, Amy was home alone. She was doing gardening when all of a sudden, a scorpion stung her. She cried loudly in pain. Her neighbor, Mr Lee, saw what happened. He rushed to Amy to hospital at once. When Amys parents were back, they were very grateful to Mr Lee for his assistance.
