With the Weekly Prayers for

The Guild of All Souls
Office for the Faithful Departed
Antiphon:
Officiant I will walk in the presence of the LORD *
People in the land of the living.

Psalm 116:1–8

1 I love the LORD, because he has heard the voice of

my supplication, *
because he has inclined his ear to me whenever
I called upon him.

2 The cords of death entangled me;

the grip of the grave took hold of me; *
I came to grief and sorrow.

3 Then I called upon the Name of the LORD: *

“O LORD, I pray you, save my life.”

4 Gracious is the LORD and righteous; *

our God is full of compassion.

5 The LORD watches over the innocent; *

I was brought very low, and he helped me.

6 Turn again to your rest, O my soul. *

for the LORD has treated you well.

1
7 For you have rescued my life from death, *
my eyes from tears, and my feet from stumbling.

8 I will walk in the presence of the LORD *

in the land of the living.

Rest eternal grant unto them, O Lord: *

and let light perpetual shine upon them.

Ant.: I will walk in the presence of the LORD *

in the land of the living.

Ant.: The LORD shall watch over your going out and
your coming in, *
from this time forth for evermore.

Psalm 121

1 I lift up my eyes to the hills; *

from where is my help to come?

2 My help comes from the LORD, *

the maker of heaven and earth.

3 He will not let your foot be moved *

and he who watches over you will not fall asleep.

4 Behold, he who keeps watch over Israel *

shall neither slumber nor sleep;

2
5 The LORD himself watches over you; *
the LORD is your shade at your right hand,

6 So that the sun shall not strike you by day, *

nor the moon by night.

7 The LORD shall preserve you from all evil; *

it is he who shall keep you safe.
8 The LORD shall watch over your going out and
your coming in, *
from this time forth for evermore.
Rest eternal grant unto them, O Lord: *
and let light perpetual shine upon them.
Ant.: The LORD shall watch over your going out and
your coming in, *
from this time forth for evermore.
Ant.: If you, LORD, were to note what is done amiss, *
O LORD, who could stand?

Psalm 130
1 Out of the depths have I called to you, O LORD;
LORD, hear my voice; *
let your ears consider well the voice of my supplication.

2 If you, LORD, were to note what is done amiss, *

O LORD, who could stand?
3
3 For there is forgiveness with you; *
therefore you shall be feared.

4 I wait for the LORD; my soul waits for him; *

in his word is my hope.

5 My soul waits for the LORD,

more than watchmen for the morning, *
more than watchmen for the morning.

6 O Israel, wait for the LORD, *

for with the LORD there is mercy;

7 With him there is plenteous redemption, *

and he shall redeem Israel from all their sins.

Rest eternal grant unto them, O Lord: *

and let light perpetual shine upon them.

Ant.: If you, LORD, were to note what is done amiss, *

O LORD, who could stand?

The Lessons
Lamentations 3:22–26, 31–33

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, his mercies never
come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your
faithfulness. “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul,
“therefore I will hope in him.” The Lord is good to those who
wait for him, to the soul that seeks him. It is good that one
should wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord. For the Lord
will not reject forever. Although he causes grief, he will have
compassion according to the abundance of his steadfast love;
for he does not willingly afflict or grieve anyone.

This is the Word of the Lord.

Thanks be to God.

Ant.: All that the Father gives me will come to me, *
and anyone who comes to me I will never turn away.
The Song of Mary Magnificat
Luke 1:46–55
My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,
my spirit rejoices in God my Savior; *
for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant.
From this day all generations will call me blessed: *
the Almighty has done great things for me,
and holy is his Name.
He has mercy on those who fear him *
in every generation.
He has shown the strength of his arm, *
he has scattered the proud in their conceit.
He has cast down the mighty from their thrones, *
and has lifted up the lowly.
He has filled the hungry with good things, *
and the rich he has sent away empty.
He has come to the help of his servant Israel, *
for he has remembered his promise of mercy,
The promise he made to our fathers, *
to Abraham and his children for ever.
Rest eternal grant unto them, O Lord: *
and let light perpetual shine upon them.
Ant.: All that the Father gives me will come to me, *
and anyone who comes to me I will never turn away.

John 10:11–16

“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his

life for the sheep. The hired hand, who is not the shepherd
and does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves
the sheep and runs away—and the wolf snatches them and
scatters them. The hired hand runs away because a hired hand
does not care for the sheep. I am the good shepherd. I know
my own and my own know me, just as the Father knows me
and I know the Father. And I lay down my life for the sheep. I
have other sheep that do not belong to this fold. I must bring
them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one
flock, one shepherd.

This is the Word of the Lord.

Thanks be to God.

Ant.: All that the Father gives me will come to me, *
and anyone who comes to me I will never turn away.

The Song of Simeon Nunc dimittis

Luke 2:29–32

Lord, you now have set your servant free *

to go in peace as you have promised;
For these eyes of mine have seen the Savior, *
whom you have prepared for all the world to see:
A Light to enlighten the nations, *
and the glory of your people Israel.

Rest eternal grant unto them, O Lord: *

and let light perpetual shine upon them.

Ant.: All that the Father gives me will come to me, *

and anyone who comes to me I will never turn away.

GRANT, Almighty God, to the Guild of All Souls such an

our Lord. Amen.

For the Dying
ALMIGHTY and ever-living God, the Preserver of Souls, You
chasten those whom You love, and correct everyone whom
You receive; we implore You to look mercifully on all those
who are now in their last agony and who are at the point of
death. May they be presented before You by the hands of the
holy Angels and admitted to the fellowship of Your Saints and
elect, so that no defilement of the flesh may hurt them; but let
Your pity and compassion absolve them from all their offenses,
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
For the Departed
O LORD Jesus Christ, you put death under Your feet,

and deed; Who live and reign with the Father and the Holy
Spirit, one God, world without end. Amen.

Angelus
The angel of the Lord announced unto Mary.
And she conceived by the Holy Ghost.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee:
blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners
now and at the hour of our death.
Behold the handmaid of the Lord.
Be it unto me according to thy word.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee:
blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners
now and at the hour of our death.
And the Word was made flesh.
And dwelt among us.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee:
blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners
now and at the hour of our death.
Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God:
That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
Let us pray.
We beseech thee, O Lord, pour thy grace into our hearts; that as we
have known the incarnation of thy Son Jesus Christ by the message of
an angel, so by his Cross  and Passion we may be brought unto the
glory of his resurrection; through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.
12
Regina Coeli
O Queen of Heaven, be joyful, alleluia.
Because he whom so meetly thou barest, alleluia.
Hath arisen, as he promised, alleluia.
Pray for us to the Father, alleluia.
Rejoice and be glad, O Virgin Mary, alleluia.
For the Lord is risen indeed, alleluia.
Let us pray.
O God, who, by the resurrection of thy Son Jesus Christ, didst
vouchsafe to give gladness unto the world: grant, we beseech thee,
that we, being helped by the prayers of the Virgin Mary, his Mother,
may attain unto the joys of everlasting life. Through the same Christ
our Lord. Amen.

Prayer of the Patron of the Guild of All Souls

O Most Merciful God, we earnestly ask for your mercy, that as we
venerate St. Michael, your most blessed Archangel, as the Patron of
this Guild, so our prayers may be presented to you by his hand; and
that as you have set upon him a crown of holy perfection, so you
would grant us pardon and forgiveness of all our sins, and when we
finish our earthly pilgrimage, would admit us to the joys of Paradise,
to praise you there with all your Holy Angels and Saints, for ever and
ever. Amen.
