BRAKE TESTING PROCEDURE OF LIGHT VEHICLES AND TRUCKS
1. Brake air Supply
Drain Air tanks inspect for water and oil if large amount of oil Compressor
inspection is required.

Park truck on level ground, apply park brake transmission in neutral and do the following. With the engine running, check with the air pressure gauge that the pressure regulator disengages when pressure has risen to recommended cut off pressure. Depress and release the brake pedal and check that the compressor re- engages when pressure has dropped.

Run the engine until its recommended pressure is reached.

Depress the brake pedal as far as possible keep it that way and shut down the engine keep the pedal depressed for at least 2 minutes and read the air pressure gauge. The pressure must not drop (rule of thumb 1 Bar /14 Psi) if the pressure drops exceed the pressure indicated above then there must be a leakage. Call your maintenance people, for further inspection.

2. Stall test Vehicle on Flat Ground with Park (Emergency) Brake

Select low gear, set Engine Rpm to between 1000 \u2013 1200 Rpm, Apply park (Emergency) brake and test vehicle by trying to drive away, Vehicle should not move up to 1000 Rpm, if truck moves, Then carry out necessary inspection, repairs or adjustments.

3. Stall test Vehicle on Flat Ground with Service Brake

Select low gear and start vehicle in forward motion after vehicle is moving, set engine Rpm at approx 1000 \u2013 1200 Rpm then apply service brake, if brakes do not stop vehicle quickly need to switch of engine put wheel chocks into position and apply lockout procedures, then inspect brake system and carry out necessary, repairs or adjustments.

4. Testing Brakes on Incline and Decline

After carrying out tests on flat ground proceed to the brake testing ramp at the light vehicle test area, Select low gear and proceed over the test ramp, stop the vehicle half way up and apply service brakes then parking brake if Ok, Proceed over ramp and carry out same procedure going down if ok, turn around and carry out brake test in opposite direction if breaking system function ok release vehicle for service if brakes fail test carry out necessary repairs and adjustments, then brake test again.
