nd
Brigade Combat Team, 34
th
Infantry Division, is expected to deploy units insupport of ongoing operations and training of the Afghan National Security Forces. Theunit will be mobilized for up to 12 months, with most of that period spent in Afghanistan.
Though we have alerted the entire 2/34
th
BCT, at this time, we anticipate that somebrigade elements may not mobilize due to recent deployments
,” said Brig. Gen. Tim Orr,the Adjutant General of the Iowa National Guard.
We have alerted four additional IowaNational Guard units with approximately 500 Soldiers to support the BCT mobilization. This potential mobilization is projected to be the largest single unit call-up of the IowaNational Guard since World War II and will touch employers, families and communitiesthroughout the state. Approximately 57 subordinate units from more than 30 Iowacommunities have been alerted to support this potential deployment.Soldiers have been alerted now in order to provide them the maximum time to completetheir preparations. It also provides a greater measure of predictability for family membersand flexibility for employers to plan for the military service of their employees.
Our Soldiers are focused on getting their families ready and preparing for their mission. We have special programs in place to assist our families with the challenges created by
this potential mobilization,” said Orr.
