GUIDE FOR SONY HDW-D1800 HDCAM DECK

NOTE: This guide assumes you are using SDI video and embedded SDI
audio.

- SETTING HD FREQUENCY (remove tape prior to setting)

1) Press P1: HOME

2) Press F9 (MENU)
3) Using the control knob, scroll down to 013: SYSTEM FREQ.
4) Press F6 (SELECT)
5) Scroll left/right to “ON” and then hit F9 (SET)
6) Scroll left/right to appropriate frequency.
7) Hit F9 (SET)
8) Turn off and on the power to the deck.

- SETTING CAPSTAN LOCK

1) Press P1: HOME

2) Press P5: PAGE DOWN three times.
3) In the upper left corner of the display, you should see CAPSTAN. Press
the button next to it to toggle to 4FD.

- SETTING “TIMECODE OUT” SO A CRASH TO A DIGIBETA WILL

MAINTAIN TIMECODE

1) Press P1: HOME.

2) Press F9 (MENU).
3) Using the control knob, scroll down to item 617: LTC OUTPUT PHASE.
4) Press F6 (SELECT). Using the control knob, scroll to OUTPUT.
5) Press F9 (SET).

- OUTPUTTING TO TAPE

… Press P3: VIDEO PROC. Make sure F2 (REF VID) is on INPUT

… Is SDI set and solid for audio and video?
… Press P2: TC. From top to bottom on the left:
o INTERNAL
 o RGN:LTC
o REC RUN
o DF (varies)
… Legalizer? You may need to BYPASS for the color bars.
… If you are doing a crash onto DigiBeta, make sure your downconvert setting
is correct. Press HOME, then MENU, then item 930, to adjust this setting.
… Cue up your tape to park it on timecode.
… Before you leave, make sure your REMOTE cable is patched, and press
REMOTE 1(9P) on the deck.

STRIPING A TAPE
… Remove any deck inputs.
… Press P1: HOME, then MENU.
o Item 710: Set to BLACK
o Item 808: Set to SILENCE

… Press HOME. Hold ALT/DELETE and press F1 - VIDEO IN so it reads

SG.
… Press P4: AUD INP. Press ALT/DELETE and press F6: AUDIO SG so
it is ON.
… Press P2: TC. From top to bottom on the left:
o INTERNAL
o PRESET
o REC RUN
o DF (varies)

… Press HOME, then TCG SET. Enter your start TC for striping by altering
digits with the MULTI-CONTROL knob, and pressing NEXT or PREV to
move between digits. When satisfied, press SET.
… Rewind the tape. Press REC & PLAY at the same time until you’ve
striped to your liking.
… Press HOME, then F1 – VIDEO IN so it reads SDI.
… Press P4: AUD INP. Hold ALT/DELETE and press AUDIO SG so it is
OFF.
… Press P2: TC. From top to bottom on the left:
o INTERNAL
o RGN:LTC
o REC RUN
o DF (varies)
