1.Description of the module
This module is designed to promote an awareness of the principles and practices thathave developed in Countryside and Heritage, a rapidly expanding area of the tourismindustry. It is a broad-based unit, defining countryside and heritage in a natural, built andcultural context.
2.Teaching and learning strategies
Student learning is based on a combination of staff-led lectures, seminar activities andfield trips. This 10 credit module emphasises oral, visual and written communicationskills, which are taught explicitly and assessed.
3.Learning outcomes
On successful completion of this module, students will be able to:1.explore dilemmas and make valuable judgements in maintaining a balancebetween conservation and access;2.evaluate a variety of areas including interpretation and exploitation; rural tourism;commercial pressures and the demand for funding3.demonstrate an awareness of the links between tourism development andenvironment; tourism growth and its impact on the community;
4.
analyse the increase of supply and demand in urban tourism, industrial andmaritime heritage and the integration of developments in the planning system.1
