GAMEMASTER'S INTRODUCTION
The gamemaster has three tasks in STAR TREK:The
Role Playing Game. He must design the encounters, present
them to players, and judge the resulting action. This book
contains information to help him with these tasks.

Included here is a chapter giving information for design- ing encounters. In this chapter are systems allowing the gamemaster to design encounters in "space... the final fron- tier." The gamemaster will be able to design "strange new worlds" for the players to explore and "new life and new civilizations" for them to seek out. Included is a section giving new gamemasters hints to help them with their own designs.

There is a chapter giving hints on presenting scenarios, on the art, if you will, of being a gamemaster. This includes how to create descriptions that will excite players and how to use all types of game aids, including maps.

In the chapters giving information on judging the action, the gamemaster will learn how to interpret and judge the rules. Some of this information will be repeated from the player book so that the gamemaster does not have to flip back and forth, but much of it will be new. In this section are given the tables and specific rules on how to judge tactical

movement and combat, injury and recovery, creation and

use of attributes and skills, and use of equipment. The infor- mation in these chapters is presented in the same order as in the player book, for easy cross-reference.
