Evaluation Activity 2 How does your media product represent particular social groups?

My magazine specifically represents the unique genre, to which isnt directly purely towards the mainstream audience, I wanted to base it on an Indie/Pop genre which is a blend of something new and undiscovered but in a group that is highly appreciated in todays society. The reason being for this decision was due to the fact that personally, I enjoy both music genres separately, to which I wanted to join them together and see what I could come up with, and it would also be pleasing two separate types of audiences at the same time. The style of my magazine is based on examples such as i-D and Wonderland., which may be well known to those who have an understanding of high-end fashion styles, but not to mainstream readers, which I thought was perfect for the sort of genre that I picked for my magazine. In particular, the contents of my magazine are greatly similar to CLASH. I think that this magazine is unique in a sense that it doesnt follow the rules of mainstream covers, and with that saying, influenced how I organised my magazine. Although the colours they used for their contents page is mainly black and white, I did stick to their layout choice, to which could attract a different sort of genre to what I intended, I changed it so that it did match my chosen audience. Artists such as M.I.A feature in this magazine example, an artist that is well know, but maybe just under the social radar nowadays. I have picked artists that have the same sort of category in the music genre picked. To attract the attention of the audience, I didnt particularly think about the sort of representative it would be placed under, I dont think that it had any intention in doing so. I think that the reader is attracted to a cover just by image alone and whether it looks interesting the second they see it, to which by my choice of image pose, a mid-shot has been used, her head is up straight and she is looking directly at the camera.

I think this shows the importance of the magazine and how direct this new artist is and how influential is if for promoting new and upcoming artists in such a mixed variety and popular genre that I have picked. Artists in the music industry today such as Marina Diamandis and Foxes influenced the way I wanted my model/artist to look on the cover due to the fact that they are artists that deserve attention and can have influential impact on this music genre. This also connects with the fact that their images are very unique, gave me a lot of inspiration for doing the same.

The layout for my pages reflect the indie/pop genre that I was hoping for and by researching a lot, I was able to achieve what I was hoping for initially. I didnt want it to look too mainstream and something laid-back in a sense that there wasnt too much going on in one spot. I dont think that I had to challenge conventions in regards to my chosen genre due to the fact that my colour scheme is quite pastel themed, to which most of my audience would wear clothing that has the same theme and that they wouldnt be put off with what I picked. I decided to go on something that I would like due to the fact that the target audience I was aiming at was around my own age and that I am the type of person that also enjoys the musical genre I picked too.
