In our class this week
We had a special visitor read to us. Representative Bob Genetski came to read to us. The children did a nice job of listening to the story he read. We also are continuing to learn a lot during our regular reading lessons in class. The students were introduced to the letters Jj and Xx this week as well as six new words again. In writing we are finishing up our unit on opinion writing. We wrote an opinion on whether we like Santa Claus or the Tooth Fairy better then gave three reasons why. The children organized their rough draft, edited it, and published a final copy! Fluency in addition has been our focus in math this week. Together our class is learning how to quickly add within 5. During science this week we worked on the difference between rolling and sliding objects. Rules and laws has been our topic in social studies. We discussed the difference between those two and made a stop light craft after learning why we have rules and laws. In religion this week our class is continuing to learn about Lent. Last, please read through the extra attached letter discussing our special treat for reaching our reading month goal!

A Peek at the Week

Next week we will learn about the letter Ee and learn some new high frequency words in reading. In math we will shift our focus to fluency in subtraction. Physical science will continue to be our subject matter in science and Lent will still be our focus in religion. Our writing focus will turn towards narrative writing as we write about what we do each day and we will still learn about rules and laws in social studies.
