Dear Classmate,Exciting things are happening in Chestertown! At the beginning of themonth, the newly remodeled Daniel Z. Gibson Performing Arts center wasdedicated, though it had been open since the beginning of the academic year. Atthe dedication, Stephen K. Spotswood, ’99 was awarded the Alumni HorizonRibbon for his service to the arts. While not a member of our class, those in thearts certainly know Steve, and send our congratulations. While driving through town last month I had the opportunity to tour thenew Performing Arts Center with Professor Jason Rubin, Drama, and wasamazed to see how the building has changed and what facilities are available tostudents and visiting performers. I will admit, I am a little jealous of the students who get to use it for the first time this year.Come November Hodson Hall will reopen its doors, and while I did not getto tour this facility, it looks like an amazing addition to campus. Overall, withthese two new buildings, the John S. Toll Science Center opening a few years back, and a slew of new dorms, campus looks as vibrant as ever! This is a good thing, for once again, WC has enrolled one of its largestclasses, totaling 378, yielding a student body of 1314 undergraduates (and 58graduate students).Mark your calendars for Reunion Weekend, “Back by Popular Demand,”May 14, 15 and 16

. At that time, the newly renovated Alumni House should beshowcased, with its new entertainment porch and dining room. Most importantly, though, the Search Committee of the Board of Visitorsand Governors has been engaged in an extensive outreach and recruitmentprocess to find Baird Tipson’s successor. Committee Chair, Jay Young ’81 reportsthat the committee received more than 80 nominations. Well over 100individuals have expressed an interest in being considered for the Presidency. We wish the committee the best of luck and send our best regards to PresidentTipson on his retirement.Enough about the college though, what is going on in your life? Have yougraduated with a new degree, recently married or have an addition to the family?Send in a class note at http://alumni.washcoll.edu.
Yours with George,Jord
