Goodwill, Worcester Public Schools to Host Donation Drives First drive begins March 29
BOSTON (March 25, 2014) Schoolchildren in Worcester will have an opportunity to give back to their community and help the environment this spring. Morgan Memorial Goodwill Industries and Worcester elementary schools are teaming up to conduct donation drives for Goodwill. Each school will be able to participate and the schools classroom with the most donations will win a gift card for school supplies. The first series of drives kicks off March 29 and runs through April 13 at the following elementary schools: Flagg Street School, Jacob Hiatt Magnet School, Nelson Place School, Roosevelt School, Thorndyke Road School, Wawecus Road School, and West Tatnuck School. Other drives will be held throughout the calendar year. Students will drop off their donations at The Goodwill Store at 25 Park Avenue in Worcester. These donations will go directly back into the Worcester community where they can help others, said Jason Marshall, vice president of retail at Morgan Memorial Goodwill Industries. Instead of throwing something away that is no longer being used, this is a way to make a difference. We are very excited to be working with the Worcester schools. Goodwill collects nearly 21 million pounds in donations every year in eastern and central Massachusetts, meaning reusable items are diverted from the landfill and into stores, where they take on new value for shoppers looking to stretch their dollar. Goodwill serves more than 10,000 people a year in eastern and central Massachusetts, providing job training, career services, and youth programs.
