Summary
President Snow visits Katniss Everdeen at her house to tell her that shedoesn’t seem to be in love with Peeta Mellark and that if she doesn’tconvince him, he will kill her best friend Gale.
Katniss and Peeta have to go on the Midway Tour, visiting everydistrict and making sure they seem to be in love. If they don’t seem tobe in love, uprisings could occur.
Uprisings begin in certain districts and people are dying because thecapital city is trying to keep every district in line and well behaved.
Katniss tries to run away from district 12 because of the new lawenforcers sent by the capital. The new enforcers try to ban manythings that are considered regular around that district.
Katniss goes to a small lake outside of her district only to find twopeople who have escaped from district four. They claim that the alwaysforgotten district 13 many still have survivors.
It’s the arenas’ 75
th
year so they have a special twist. The twist is theyuse old survivors of the arena to compete again. Katniss and hermentor Haymitch get chosen but Peeta steps up and takes the spot of Haymitch.
Katniss and Peeta both have to go back to the capital for training andto get a new “threaten number” which shows how strong the judgesthink they are.
Once in the arena, Katniss decides to become allies with one of Haymitchs’ friends, Finick. She has a really hard time trusting him withher life sometimes but he ends up being a valuable asset to the group.
Katniss, Peeta, Finick and Bolts blow up the arena with a bolt of lightning and escape while Katniss is unconscious.

Once Katniss regains consciousness, Peeta and Gale are there to talkher through what just happed. They also tell her about how the capitalbombed her whole home district to shreds and there were no survivors.
Life’s Learning
I found this book had a very meaningful life lesson. This lesson is thatloved ones are worth making sacrifices for. In the book “Catching Fire”,Katniss Everdeen tries her very hardest to try and save her beloved husband,Peeta Mellark. The first time Peeta and Katniss entered the Hunger games, Peetaconfessed his love for Katniss and therefore trying very hard (along with thehelp from Haymitch) to keep Katniss alive. Keeping Katniss alive was moreimportant to Peeta then keeping himself alive. This time around Katniss isreturning the favour and doing all she can to save him. Finick and Bolt soonrealize what Katniss is trying to accomplish and eventually join in by makingsacrifices in order to keep Peeta from dying. This novel really shows a dedication to one another. Even thoughKatniss and Peeta are still a little new to each other, they realize thatsomething is forming between them and so they each do the most they canto help the other. Even though Peeta makes more risky moves, he knowsKatniss is everything to him.Over all the life is lesson is a very admirable one because bothcharacters in this book know that life isn’t worth living without that oneperson you love more than anyone else.
