The Salvation Army accepting their check
What an Amazing Response!
I just accompanied Alison to drop off a check from the online donationdrive for the Salvation Army. Ann Rainbolt, Social Security Case workerand Salvation Army volunteer, met us at the center. She said that shehad spoken to Rob a few days ago when he had told her about his idea– to raise as much funds as he could in 24 hrs to help feed and giftless fortunate families of the Wenatchee Valley. She didn’t think muchwould come of it but applauded his efforts. When Ali presented thecheck for $7,000, she yelled “CAPTAIN!” and called over Marcelino “Butch” Soriano of the Salvation Army. Their reactions were thankful, excited and gracious. We also presented them with the list of nameswho contributed and made the check possible...they wereoverwhelmed.Ann took us on a tour. When we arrived, they just finished a meetingwith some of the recipients of their Christmas program. Ann said theyhave appointments by the hour and had met with 350 adults just thisThursday morning – 100 at 9am, 100 at 10am and 50 at 11am, just aswe arrived. The recipients receive a certificate and head to the “ToyRoom”. This big room is lined with tables and filled with gifts – toys, clothes, games, items for kids from birth to 17 years old. I actuallysaw some gifts for moms and dads as well as for their sons anddaughters. After the recipients fill their bags, a Salvation Army

volunteer presents them with a big box of food and a gift certificatewhich they can use for their meats and vegetables. Volunteers helpthem carry their box of food and bag of gifts to their cars. And todaywas extra special, Ann said, because Thrivent and Second Harvestwere there offering additional produce, milk and bread.Ann told me that paperwork for this program started the week afterThanksgiving. Appointments have been scheduled for the last threeweeks and will end tomorrow, Friday December 21, at 3pm. Anyonewho has not already applied is able to fill out paperwork and come tothe facility to receive gifts and food. They are still accepting food, toysand cash donations up to noon tomorrow. She reminded me that theneed is huge and it’s Monday through Friday year round. The SalvationArmy accepts cash donations year round. We thank you for your interest, support and generous response to thiscampaign. We’ve had so much positive feedback from you all – I’vebeen on the verge of tears all week! Many of you said that you hadheard the same radio interview as Rob and had already given toSalvation Army. I’ve loved logging onto my computer these last twomornings to look at the amazing tally. The need is huge, you heard it and paid it forward. Merry Christmas!Sarah & Ali – The Oliver Group
