Description

The Arian Controversy revolves around Jesus Christ’s beginning (how he came to be), being (ontology), and eternity (co-existence with the Father, in or before time). The dispute focuses primarily on the eternity of the Son; the Son’s beginning and being follow logically from his position in eternity. The Arian heresy culminated into the most important council of the early Church (Hall 121) and still exists in certain groups which claim to be Christian. This document will highlight the main doctrinal points of the Arian heresy and the orthodox response to each point.

Sabellius is a historical figure who represents ancient modalism. Although there is very little information regarding his life , and even less of his writings extant, Sabellius is still the name used to refer to modalism. As with the Arian Controversy, this document will highlight the main doctrinal points of Sabellianism and the orthodox response to each point.
