In the search for the perfect job, it is hard to find one that meets our creativeneeds, our passions and is one that we can say we love. If your passionsinclude playing video games, then becoming a video game tester may be thecareer that you have always wanted. Just imagine making a living playingthe video games you love to play. It doesn't get much better than this! Thereality though, is that even with this job, there are stresses and you will haveto work for it. But at the end of the day, you will have spent your time doingsomething you love and being paid for it. To make it in the video game industry, you will need to possess goodcommunication skills. Simply playing the video games doesn't make you agood tester, but being able to communicate the problems that you find tothe game designers and producers takes you from a video game player to avideo game tester. There will be a lot of challenges in this job so be sureyou're ready to put in a day's work. A day in the life of a tester will gosomething like this. The company you are working for will call you to come inand test a new game. Your "office" will be a room with other people testinglike you. Some companies compartmentalize the space in to cubicles whileothers keep the room open. In this room, you will play the new game throughthe levels they assign you or to another predetermined spot within thegame.As you play through the game, you are supposed to use all the tools thatyour character has at its disposal. You will be checking out the graphics to besure they look good and that the special effects are up to par. For each gameyou will have a log that needs to be filled out with your findings. This iswhere your communication skills come in. Your feedback is what will makethe game better and ready for marketing. You have to be sure that you aregiving an honest and impartial finding on the game. If you can communicatethis clearly and effectively, you can have a long career in this field.Why do these companies need outside help in testing a game, you may ask?Well, the simple facts are that the game designers cannot test their ownwork. They come up with the basic design and it is up to you and othertesters to be sure the game lives up to expectations and is something you'llbe proud to have your name on. That is one of the perks of testing; you'll getyour name on the credits of the games you test. There isn't a company outthere who doesn't hire people to test their games. This means theopportunities for you to become a video game tester are many. Go out thereand play for money.
