Protection of Marriage (“Coalition”) notes that:

On March 24, 2014, the Coali
tion’s counsel reviewed for the first time the
attached
“Brief of Amici Curiae
Professors Alan J. Hawkins and Jason S. Carroll in Support of Defendants-
Appellants and Reversal” filed in the Utah
same-sex marriage case now pending before the Tenth Circuit,
 Kitchen v.  Herbert 
, Case Nos. 13-4178, 14-5003, and 14-
5006 (“Hawkins & Carroll Brief”). Later that week, the Coalition’
s counsel learned of the intent and expectation that the Hawkins & Carroll Brief will also be filed in due course in the Sixth Circuit (Michigan, Kentucky, and Tennessee same-sex marriage cases) and the Fourth Circuit (Virginia same-sex marriage cases) and in certain federal district courts now considering the same issue. 2.
 
The Hawkins & Carroll Brief addresses in helpful and scholarly fashion
issues raised in the Coalition’s Answering Brief (Dkt. No. 110
-3) at pages 26-
51, particularly the societal role of marriage’s institutionalized meanings
and likely society-wide consequences of the redefinition of marriage from the union of a man and a woman to the union of two persons without regard to gender. 3.
 
The Hawkins & Carroll Brief contains important information that has
already been referenced in Utah’s Reply Brief in that State’s same
