Journey to jail

February 2010: Vanessa Argueta and her son, Diego Torres, allegedly murdered in Central Islip vacant lot by MS-13 member Juan Garcia and two others. The suspects hide out in a Farmingdale motel and are then driven by a gang associate to the parking lot of a fast-food restaurant in the Bronx. Smugglers pick them up and drive them to Houston, then sneak them across the border to Mexico. Garcia travels to his hometown of Santa Rosa de Lima, El Salvador. May 2010: FBI agents and Salvadoran national police attempt to arrest Garcia at his home, but he spots the initial surveillance and flees. 2011: Garcia is seen working in a clothing store in Honduras. March 26, 2014: FBI places Garcia on Ten Most Wanted list and offers $100,000 reward. Agents contact Garcias family in El Salvador and convince them it is safer for him and his family if he gives himself up. March 27: Garcia surrenders to FBI agents at the fast-food restaurant he is working at in Managua, Nicaragua. March 28: FBI flies Garcia back to Long Island, where he is housed in county jail in Riverhead.
