Psychology is generally defined as the study of the mind. However, the base word psyche originally meant soul. When practicing in the field of psychology we are treating more than the mind; we are dealing with the soul. It should not be surprising then that spirituality play a role in therapy. This is even truer in cases of addiction where recovery is often described as being spiritual and where the issues are spiritual in nature.
