Description

Summary— Dwayne Jackson is an aspiring High School basketball player with dreams of playing major college ball. But when a gang leader murders his best friend, the prosecutor fingers him in the retaliatory crime. Following months of legal wrangling, the District Attorney is amenable to expunge the record—should he graduate the summer camp near Wounded Knee.

Dwayne and his new friends enjoy many adventures over the summer, but the true quest begins when three Lakota Indians emerge, with their Chief, dressed in full regalia and ready to practice the Ghost Dance. Manifest Destiny, and her swinging scythe of oppression, will face her biggest challenge ever as the Ghost Dance rings true, sending the campers and Spotted Bear back the happenings of slavery and repression.

Spotted Bear assembles massive armies of immortals to tackle the oppression of the Bluecoats in an all-out war against Divine Right. Dwayne has other goals, an adventure that takes him to a Southern Mississippi plantation…the same plantation built by the blood and toil of his ancestors.

About the Author: I spent many summers on my Uncle’s cattle ranch in Northern Nebraska, near the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. I have always been fascinated with the plight of the Native Americans and their oppression. Riding horses as a kid, I often enjoyed imagining we were back in 1850, and the Indians were again strong and proud, rather than way I would see them in town—often times disheveled, discouraged, and perhaps even liquored up.
