Raymes is Rockin. I say that because every day I pass by where the new Raymes Fish and Steakhouse is being constructed. In the past two weeks the frame has gone up and this week the roof struts are all on. The better weather has allowed construction to proceed and they are moving quickly. Jerri Reynolds the owner says they are hoping to reopen in late April or early May. We wish them the very best and look forward to a Lisle landmark coming back. Miguel Ascencio owner of Yerbabuena Mexican Restaurant is planning to start his new building this year as well. So we should have two new buildings for iconic restaurants in Lisle by the end of 2014. Besides this there will be a new large development on the site of the old village hall at Burlington and Main St. Things are definitely happening in downtown Lisle. Next month and throughout the summer there will be a return to the popular Cruise Nights on the last Saturday of May, June, July, and August. In addition there will be a special Cruise Night on Sept 20th to round out the season. Remember you can reserve a table space for marketing your business/organization for a fee of $50. This is a very reasonable fee for major exposure. On any given Cruise Night there are usually 100 automobiles on display. Our April luncheon on April 17th at 11:30 am will be held at the Lisle Hyatt and feature two of Lisles impressive local government leaders. Chief Tom Freeman of the Lisle Woodridge Fire Protection District has announced his retirement. He will celebrate 20 years as chief in July of this year but will be moving on to other challenges. Under Toms leadership the District has maintained an ISO 1 rating which is the highest a department can achieve. It results in lower insurance rates for those of us located in the district. Our other speaker will be the new Police Chief for Lisle, David Anderson. Chief Anderson is known for his community relations and innovative programs which we will hear about at the luncheon. Women in Business will hold their brown bag luncheon on April 8th at the Lisle Park District Recreation Center. The featured speaker is Dr. Susan Mitchell, OB, Gyn. from DuPage Medical Group speaking on the topic of womens health. The price for this luncheon with an 11:30am start is a reasonable $5. It is a great deal for a quality program. Will we have many April showers? Daffodils will be up soon. Finally, come the to the Business after Hours at GC Realty on April 23rd in downtown Lisle. Newlywed Mary Torgerson always puts on a great event. See you soon!

Take a Deep Breath

We are already into the 2nd quarter of 2014. March came in like a lion who refused to take his bad weather with him! I know we are all hoping for an April reprieve! The cold weather didnt slow down Chamber activity. We started out the month with our Spring Sprint on the 9th. Though many people will remember it as the Winter Dash, it was still a big success with more than 200 participants!! There were opportunities to network every week in March. We have several great Chamber events coming up this month as well! Be sure to check the calendar and attend a few. It is a great way to network for your business and make important contacts. I cannot emphasize enough the importance of getting involved and making the most of your membership with the Lisle Chamber. There are so many opportunities for involvement at events and on committees. If you think you cannot afford the time, you are dead wrong! Getting involved in Lisle Chamber activities is the BEST way to locally grow your business and network with other professionals. I recently joined a new committee at the Chamber the Chamber Ambassadors. This committee is head up by Paula Gleason and is a well-run machine that gives you opportunities to really connect with new members both at their business and at local events. Come check out one of the Ambassador Committee Meetings! I know Im glad I did! Another fun networking event that you can bring your whole family to this summer is Lisles Cruise Night & Block Parties on Main Street. Cruise Nights have become a local favorite, not just for Lisle residents, but for quite a few car enthusiasts from the surrounding communities! Main Street is blocked off for several hours while families roam the streets to meet with their friends, see some beautiful vintage cars, listen to music, grab food & drink from Evvivas Food Tent, visit the raffle table sponsored by local businesses, and much more! Lisle/Woodridge Fire Department brings out their trucks for kids to see, and the Police Department even gets involved with a vehicle or two. Our Cruise Nights are getting bigger and better. Watch for some new and fun things to be added this year too! Table tops are available for businesses for only $50, and a fun time is truly had by all. Contact the Chamber office if you are interested in hosting a table. Cruise Night Block Parties are scheduled for the last Saturday of the summer months, with an extra one added in September! Mark your calendars now and plan on attending them all: May 31st from 6-9 p.m. June 28th from 6-9 p.m. July 26th from 6-9 p.m. August 31st from 6-9 p.m. & September 20th from 5-8 p.m. (note earlier date and time due to darkness)

Multi-Chamber Luncheon and Business Expo

The Multi-Chamber Luncheon and Business Expo took place on Thursday, March 20, 2014 at the Sheraton in Lisle. There was a full-house with over 500 attendees and 36 businesses with tables in the Expo. A special thank you to our four table exhibitors, Liberty Mutual, Runners 4 Wellness, ServiceMaster Today and US Bank. This event served as a great opportunity to branch out and network with members from 20 different Chambers. Immediately following lunch, Jeanne Malnati of Lou Malnatis Pizzeria gave her presentation about building a workplace culture where people enjoy coming to work everyday. As a licensed psychotherapist, much of her attention was focused on creating an environment where people can effectively communicate with one another, and feel comfortable sharing opinions and ideas. With a strong emphasis on six key ingredients, Jeanne provided tremendous insight on achieving success and harmony in the workplace.

Ambassador SpotlightNadine Filipiak

Nadine Filipiak, President/Owner of Filipiak Marketing Communication works to assist people in building their business by increasing their visibility and value to existing and potential customers. She has been in this line of work since 1980 and her marketing communication experience includes working for BorgWarner, three Chicago area hospitals, the American Medical Association and American Society for Clinical Pathology. An interesting side-note, she was able to convince William Petersen, start of the original CSI show to attend the ASCPs Annual Meeting to receive an award for the strong scientific focus of his show. This is especially noteworthy as the award, a replica of a 1750s microscope, appeared on the show when Petersen added it to his office on the set. Nadine has been a member of the Lisle Area Chamber since 2007 and an Ambassador since 2008. She enjoys her time as an Ambassador because it gives her the opportunity to meet a lot of people and reach out to make them feel welcome in Lisle and the Chamber. In addition to her involvement as an Ambassador, she serves as Chair of Women in Business, a member of the Dinner Dance committee and volunteers her time at the 5K/10K and Golf Outing. A resident of Lisle since 1993, Nadine and her husband Fred have three children and two granddaughters. They are both active members of the local Great Lakes Region of the Vintage Chevrolet Club of America and have two vintage cars themselves. Nadine is also involved in the Lisle Heritage Society and served as VP of Programs this year, after several years as editor of the Societys newsletter. She shares a favorite quote by Winston Churchill, We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give.
