TeT do alot of talking about the Anime Apocalypse in various places. Is it happening now?
I'm not sure, but boy it surely is jumbled and messed up out there now, isn’t it? Geneon
closing down their American branch and seemingly unable to find another way to get
their licenses into the U.S. marketplace, you’ve got ADV closing down all manner of
subsidiaries, some much more significant than others... where is it all going, what happens
next?
Well, for me, I have I feeling that it’s all going to end up looking alot like the late ‘80s,
where you've got one or two ‘big’ titles that have managed to get picked up by some
marketing company and get on TV somewhere (Pokemon model), a couple of companies
doing mail order only for subtitled only releases and living basically ‘hand to mouth’
where each release pays for the next (AnimEigo model), and that’s it for legit releases in
the US of A. The hardcore will be buying releases direct from Japan and the ‘daytrippers’
will be doing their thing, downloading whatever someone puts out on the Internet.
But that’s not the topic of this particular epistle. I want to address those out there who are
