New Technology Improves Product Changeover Times and Simplifies Blend Accuracy Testing.
As manufacturers continue to increase the number of layers and extruders on a typical production line theresults are increased product changeover costs. On a typical seven layer film line a custom producer willsee downtime and labor costs in the hundreds of thousands of dollars annually from hard to drain and clean blending systems. This increase of layers also involves smaller extruders with lower rates making blend ingredient accuracytesting and verification a necessity. A new feeder design created by CRG Logics, Inc. of Green Bay, Wisconsin reduces cleanout times toseconds and simplifies blend accuracy testing. The CRG Simplicity Series Continuous Gravimetric Blender incorporates a variable speed vibratory feeder for component metering. The new feeder design includes a positive material shutoff on each hopper allowing quick, easy removal of the feeder for draining of material. Compared with batch blendingtechnology, the unit has no hang up points to trap pellets that result in contamination to future products. These feeders can also now be reversed in order to check blend accuracy quickly and easily. New options to the Simplicity blender include an integrated vacuum system control, a purge hopper assembly that allows for quick easy auto-purging of an extruder, and a PC based QC and Data Archivingsoftware package to track material inventory usages on numerous blenders or lines. With the increase in resin pricing, cost of additives, and foreign competition, improving accuracy and reducing changeover times is essential. CRG Logics continues to invest significant R&D dollars to improveour customer’s profits.
