SID
AND
MARY
 LLS URY
APRIL
1978
NEWSLETTER
Greetings
to
our
Friends
in
America:
I d
better
start
this
letter,at
least.
It
may
be
writ
ten
like
some
letters
we
receive,
 here
a
little,
there
a
little .
How ve
youbeen?
Thanks
for
those
notes,
letters
and
regular
support,
God
bless
you
in
ways
we
cannot.
Mary's
Activities
Mary
has
often
returned
from
the
ladies'
meetings
at
the
chapel
saying
what
a
shame
it
is
that
more
ladies
don't
take
advantage
ofthe
programs.That
attitude
can
get
you
more
involved.
Shewas
asked
this
spring
to
serve
on
the
leadership
committee
for
next
year.
Her
primary
re
sponsibilitieswill
be
arranging
the
devotions
for
the
meetings.
To
begin
her
new
position
properly
she
led
the
devotions
in
March.
It
just
happened
that
the
guests
that
day
were
most
of
the
area
chaplains.
She
prepared
well
and
never
did
better
Non-biased
reporter )
Her
topic
concerned
the
discipline
of
children.

Frankfurt
Work
We ve
made
it
a
habit
lately
of
asking
some
ofthe
fellows
from
the
Army
base
toride
toFrankfurt
with
us
for
services,
We
like
to
fill
our
bus
as
the
group
there
is
very
small.
and
we
usually
take
themajority
of
the
congregation
with
us,
Tony
is
a
soldier
we ve
asked
severalto
pray
for.
 e
has
spent
Saturday
night
with
us
three
times
lately
andgone
to
church
withus.
He
doesn t
go
to
church
otherwise.
We ve
arranged
to
go
toFrankfurt
eachsecond
and
fourth
Sunday
in
the
month.
We ve
had
verypoor
success
attracting
new
members
there.
Fred
Ragland
once
said
that
the
main
advantage
we
had
there
was
all
day
activitiesat
our
home
which
provided
much
needed
fellowship.
Of
course,
we
don t
have
that
anymore.
Two
orthree
people
have
writtento
us
concerning
the
pos
sibility
of
coming
to
work
in
the
Frankfurtarea.
It
has
been
a
year
since
we
moved
to
Karlsruhe
and

neverimagined
we d
still
be
drivingtoFrankfurtto
hold
services
It s
not
easy
to
get
replacements.
We ve
actually
lost
workers
instead
of
gaining
new
ones.I m
hoping
we
will
gain
more
than
workers
for
the
Frankfurt
area
but
also
one
or
two
families
for
other
areas.
From
the
response
and
from
what
I ve
learned
through
the
years
it
appears
that
thereare
always
good
preachers
ready
to
pack
up
and
move
around
the
world.
However,
they
aren t
prepared
to
handle
the
financial
confusion
that
necessarily
follows.

think
-^strong
local
church
support,not
just
money,
relieves
much
of
this
pressure.
Mature
backers
who
understand
some
ofthe
problems
of
sponsoring
an,overseas
.-branch
office,
which
is
what
each
missionary
really
is
Films
The
chaplain s
office
has
ordered
six
films
for
us.
We
already
saw
Johnny
Cash s
 Gospel
Road .
The
resonse
was
good,
about
45
saw
it
Several
commented
on
how
they
liked
it
Somewho
need
to
accept
Christ
again
saw
the
Gospel
forcefully
portrayed.
We
spent
two
hours
afterwards
in
singing
and
discussion.
Several
young
folks
from
a
local
German
congregationshared
in
that
too.

Counseling
I
always
hesitate
to
discuss
in
much
detail
matters
that
people
have
brought
to
me
in
confidence
duringcounseling
Here s
some
idea
as
to
what s
on
their
minds.Job
frus
tration
vocational
training
and
thefutureare
real
prob
lems
to
a
lot
of
people
I
realizethat
doesn t
sound
very
spiritual
but
that s
what s
worrying
people.
The
reason
they
talk
to
me
about
it
is
they
have
the
feelingthat
God
cares
about
their
pain.
He
does
Some
ask
about
moral
questions
what
God
expects
or
how
toget
out
of
a
mess
they ve
made
Exchange
Rate
The
dollar
stayed
about
like
ti
was
last
month
One
dollar
gets
1 98
German
Marks
It
may
not
come
back
up
I
have
given
up
guessing I m
just
very
thankful
for
your
regular
help
^ here
would
we
be
without
it?
Otherwise
The
children s
summer
schoolbreak
is
from
JunsLilS
to
July
29
Lugano
Camp
dates
are
July
 5
to
Aug\^t
3
Obviously
they ll
either
miss
the
first
week
of ^
school
or
camp The
plans
for
camp
haven t
all
fallen
into
place
yet
The
location
is
one
big
factor
It^may
be
that
we
can
use
the
same
grounds
we
have
used
fpr
the
past
four
years.
I ll
know
more
next
month
Thanks
for
your
constant
help
and
prayers
