Water is a natural good, a renewable natural resource and a prerequisite for life on Earth. Slovenia is rich in water resources, although they are not equally distributed. Water statistics can help assess the state of waters and our water management.
In a comprehensive way the publication presents information of water resources in Slovenia and the way they are managed. It brings data on water resources, the state of waters in Slovenia, water supply and use, and treatment of waste water. A special emphasis is put on investment in water management. The story of water concludes with an overview of the most important emphases.
Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia
Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia is the main producer and co-ordinator of carrying out programs of statistical surveys. In addition to linking and co-ordinating the statistical system, its most important tasks include international co-operation, determining methodological and classification standards, anticipating users' needs, collection, processing and dissemination of data, and taking care of data confidentiality.

FOREWORD
Water is a renewable natural resource. It is a prerequisite for life on Earth. Slovenia has a lot of water, but this wealth is not equally distributed; neither in space nor in time. With the looming climate change, water resources are perhaps our most important strategic resource. With increased pressures on the environment and thus also on water resources, we must be aware of the current state of water and our water management to be able to understand and appropriately assess the quality and availability of
