S eoul, South Korea – The Foreign Workforce Policy Division of the

Ministry of Labor (MOL) recently announced the approval of the
revised Foreign Workers Employment Act. The National Assembly of
Korea amended the said law on September 16 during their plenary
session.

The new provisions on the Employment Permit System (EPS) is

expected to take effect two months after its official announcement or
around third week of December 2009.

The new law will allow EPS workers to work for up to five straight years
without having to make the obligatory one-month exit outside Korea to
extend their job contracts. It will also prevent illegal repatriation or can-
cellation of work visa of foreign workers from their designated work-
places. Photo courtesy of HFCC by Czarjeff Laban
