Dear Cattlemen,Welcome to our 31st Annual Production Sale as we celebrate our57th year in the Angus business.The past year has been one o the most challenging we can recall.We have witnessed dramatic changes beore, and have always usedcommon sense along with the best current technology to work ourway through it. The current challenges are no dierent.As we look to the uture, we always glance back to the past, andthese words rom our 2004 sale letter ring very true again today:“We are also not araid to bring in new blood or go back to oldblood that’s a little o the beaten path in order to create new lines thatcould have a positive eect on the breed down the road. We regardour position in the bee industry as research and development, fndingand proving the sires that can orce their way past the genetic antago-nisms inherent in bee cattle production.”We fnd that statement very much on track today, and you will seesome o our eorts toward genetic diversity in this oering. However,we will continue to strongly pursue multi-trait excellence and not giveup the progress we’ve made, solely to bring in new blood. These cattlestill need to excel on the measurable EPD traits to insure our custom-ers’ proftability, and they must be sound, ertile and efcient. The useo multiple bloodlines just gives us and our customers more optionsto select rom, and more genetic diversity in the breed.The bee industry has been challenged by increased input costs.We think the Angus cow is the most efcient in the industry, and thebreed will continue to dominate the genetics o the commercial cowherd. Our EPD system has allowed us to characterize Angus bullsvery specifcally, so when a commercial producer buys that bull to doa certain job, he will do that job. That reputation has been the drivingorce or the popularity o the Angus breed in the commercial sectortoday.As always, we will do our best to inorm you, our customer, with allthe inormation we can to help you make good buying decisions. The herd sires reerenced on this and the next seven pagesare responsible or over 78,000 progeny in the AHIR database,along with over 3,700 progeny on Australia’s Breed Plan. Morethan 24,000 daughters o these sires have had calves reportedon AHIR, and over 1,900 progeny have been reported throughcarcass evaluation. We actually have 93 sires owned or co-owned by us on the 2009 Sire Evaluation Report.Most o these sires are available to you via artifcial insemi-nation, and semen can be ordered through our arm ofce,rom ORIgen Cattle Services, Billings, MT, and rom manylocal distributors, including ABS representatives, on manysires. We have semen prices printed at the end o each ootnoteon sires available directly rom us, and all AI certifcates arepriced at $40. I you would like to pick up semen on sale day,please let us know in advance so we can have ample supplies.Some o these bulls will be on display sale day. Others are attheir respective co-owners’ arms, depending on ownership o the possession interest.
