In olden days, ranch owners used to marktheir cattle to keep them separate fromother people’s cattle. The mark wasknown as brand. The concept of branding also developedthrough the practices of craftsmen whowanted to place an identification mark ontheir work. These craftsmen used theirinitials, a symbol, or another unique markto identify their work and they usually putthese marks in a low visibility place onthe product.
