Thank you to Marco Olivier who posted these statistics. I note they are based upon UN figures over the period 1998-2002, and of course are published with the rider that statistics may prevalence of reported crime only, and that sociological factors regarding ease of reporting and attitude towards rape and the victims of rape, amongst other factors, will qualify these figures.
What is remarkable is that, for the person searching for "rape statistics" on Google UK will find no matching pages, for "European rape statistics" will find 2 pages, one being a website with a string of pornographic text and the other being inaccessible, and searching for the same on Google (all Web) brings up THIS SITE ALONE!!
When you consider the thousands of pages one receives on a standard search for just about anything, this fact seems curious: stands out like a sore thumb, in fact. Why only one page on the entire web? Are search engines suppressing such information, or is it just Google. Time for some research on other search engines. What, do you think, might be the reason for such suppression on this worldwide information base that is the internet, if that is what is really the case here. Is NOBODY publishing these stats (other than Marco Olivier, who must be thanked again)??
