Shout out to all of you Class of 1991!

How the heck are you? Hope everyone is doing well. Here is another up date for the Events and
Happenings of your Washington College.

The new Gibson Center for the Arts is completed, dedicated and wowing everyone. I have heard
that this building is spectacular inside and out. And it has a new Art Gallery, with “Gallery
Hours”. The Kohl Gallery is open Tuesdays 2-8pm, Wednesdays-Fridays 2-5 pm, and Saturdays
11 am – 4 pm.

Washington College has acquired waterfront land to expand its Chester River presence. On
October 15th, the College announced that it acquired 5.4 acre adjacent to the boathouse. Plans for
this land include expanding the athletic and recreational facilities, a public river walk, a
waterfront academic center to include new headquarters for the Center for Environment and
Society, and a residential facility for some lucky students.

The new Hodson Hall complex is scheduled to be open for student use by November 2009. I
wonder if the disco ball remained part of the décor?

The Alumni House has one final phase of renovation scheduled to start in October. The plan is
to have an entertainment porch on the side of the house.

The search and selection for the next College President continues. The Search Committee
reports that there were 80 nominations and over 100 people interested in the position. We will
all await the announcement for the next President, scheduled to start August 2010.

There are a list of honors for WC students and Coaches that are worth mentioning :

Conner Blouin ’10 of the sailing team was named an All-American Honorable Mention,
becoming the second sailor to ever earn that recognition at WC.

Lacrosse player Brittany Lambert ’09 was named an ESPN the Magazine At-Large
Academic All-American for the second straight year.

Lacrosse player Jimmy Kielek ’09 was awarded an NCAA Post-graduate scholarship

Both swim teams were awarded Team Scholar All American status for the Spring 2009
semester by the College Swimming Coaches Association. To win the award, the team
must finish w/ a team GPA of at least 3.0.
Allie Hanzsche ’10 and Whitney Donald ’10 were named to the Intercollegiate Women’s
Lacrosse Coaches Association Academic Squad.

On the technical side, here is some important information. First, PLEASE submit your class
notes. They can be submitted by emailing to: classnotes@washcoll.edu. There are space
limitations, so for digital photos please make sure they are no larger than 300 dpi at a canvas size
of 3 x 5. You can also use regular mail to send your class notes. Forms for regular mail are
available upon request.

Second, if you would like to receive blast e-mails, news letters and campus event updates on a
regular basis, please update your e-mail address with Judie Barroll, Director of Alumni
Programs, jbarroll2@washcoll.edu. The highlights I gave you about the Chester river land
acquisition and the Kohl art gallery came from these blast e-mails.

Third, I’ll suggest you go to the WC website, to see listing of scheduled events. There are
already dates listed for the upcoming holiday parties. Just visit www.washcoll.edu.

Finally, I must thank all of you profusely for all you do for Washington College, and especially
for your contributions to the Washington Fund. Take care everyone. Hope you are enjoying the
fall, and can perhaps take a trip to WC to enjoy the Eastern Shore fall colors.

Best,

Suzanne Hewes, 1991
