The explosion of new digital learning technologies,the exponential growth of Internet usage and the advent of the World Wide Web arechanging the face of medical education.There are also demands in medical education for greater globalization,for the development of  common core curriculum standards,  for improving access to training, for more flexible and student-centered training programs includingprograms with multi-professional elements and for maintaining quality while increasing student numbersand working within financial constraints. Hence enters Imhotep Virtual Medical School (IVMS), a high-quality education program embodying a hybrid model of a blended curriculum of innovative e-learningapproaches and the best of traditional face-to-face teaching, as one response to these challenges.
 
IVMS is an undergraduate medical education research project exploring:
 
 
Innovative thinking and approaches to the new learning technologies including Web 2.0 tools, e-learning repositories and virtual reality;
 
 
New approaches to curriculum planning and mapping and advanced instructional design based on theuse of 'reusable learning objects';
 
 
A culturally competent curriculum with an international perspective on medical education whichtakes into account the trend to globalization;
 
 
A flexible curriculum which meets the needs of different students and has the potential of increasingaccess to medicine, particularly for United States racial/ethnic minorities and the poor.

MedicalStudent.com is a digital library of authoritative medical informationdesigned to help all students of medicine. The goal of MedicalStudent.com is to provide a starting point for entry into medical places of enlightenment, entertainment and education on theInternet. MedicalStudent.com identifies authoritative medical World-Wide Web sites that canteach, illuminate, and inspire. In essence, MedicalStudent.com is meant to serve as a "picoportal" for users interested in quality medical resources on the Internet. Feel free to bookmark and / or link to MedicalStudent.com.MedicalStudent.com uses the following criteria for World-Wide Web site selection: 1) The site isselected by a process of peer review by accreditation, because accreditation models are designedfor works that change over time. To become accredited, a site must clearly display four corequality standards:
a. Authorship
, including the author's name, affiliation, and credentials.
b.Attribution
of facts through the listing of references.
