Awareness (SICA)
You can make the difference.
SICA is an opportunity for students to become aware of natural disasters
that are occurring around the world and to do something about their
devastating after-affects. It’s an informal, non-profitable club made by
students, advised by eligible teachers.

Our purpose is to:

1. Increase international awareness of disastrous events.
2. Fulfill the fifth ESLR: Demonstrating Global Citizenship.
3. Raise awareness of what it takes to be a true humanitarian.

Are there any rules?

There is only one rule we have in SICA and that is to always be aware of disasters occurring. If something happens,
we want to be the first to know about it and the first to do something to help. From floods in Taiwan to massive
tsunamis in the Philippines, we want to lend a hand, or a dollar, towards whatever we can do for those people who
need us.

Did you just say “committee”?

We make committees so that we can cover a span of different topics. For example, we can cover donations to moon
bears with one committee, while covering the Taiwan Flood Relief with another, and at the same time increase our
own publicity with public awareness and advertisements. Because this is an informal club, you research whatever
you want with whatever ideas you have and present it to the club leader or one of the teacher advisers. If it is a
good one, we can work with it and actually turn it into a charity drive. If not, then we’ll dispose of it and you just pick
up a new one that you might like. But you MUST research this with a partner because the work will get too much for
you if you don’t. We can have as many committees as we want when we get enough members.

However, at the beginning, we have a number of things to cover at first. As we progress and take care of these other
things, committees will be able to be more flexible.

How is this different from E-Club?

We build our club's foundation based on the Salvation Army, and unlike E-Club, which focuses more on
environmental issues, we’ll be focusing on help people more than we will be helping the environment.

Benefits?

For us – Community Service Hours to no benefits. For the world – many. We can make a difference – and because of
that, we should take that opportunity to make it happen, even if we don’t get anything from it.
