COLUMBIA CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL2008-2009STUDENT HANDBOOKFOREWORD
Welcome to Columbia Central High School. May the forthcoming school year be a positivelearning experience for you and your fellow classmates. The Student Handbook is prepared as a guide so that you can readily refer to items dealingwith school policies, course requirements, athletics, club activities, and many other areas of interest. If you have any questions that are not addressed in this handbook, you areencouraged to talk to your teachers or the building principal. It is our sincere desire that the time you spend with us here will provide you with manyworthwhile experiences which will be helpful in your pursuit of achievement, self-understanding, happiness, and a good basic education. To fulfill these broad goals, it is necessary that we provide the facilities, materials, staff andthe best learning atmosphere possible. It is also necessary that students acceptresponsibilities, which contribute to their personal success and the success of their school aswell. The success you achieve personally will depend very much on your own efforts andattitudes. Teachers cannot teach unless students are willing to learn. This handbook summarizes many of the official policies and administrative guidelines of theBoard of Education and the District. To the extent that the handbook is ambiguous orconflicts with these policies and guidelines, the policies and guidelines shall control. Thishandbook is effective immediately and supersedes any prior handbook and other writtenmaterial on the same subjects. This handbook does not equate to an irrevocable contractual commitment to the student, butonly reflects the current status of the Board’s policies and the School’s rules as of June 30,2008. If any of the policies or administrative guidelines referenced herein are revised afterJune 20, 2008, the language in the most current policy or administrative guideline prevails.Read this handbook carefully. Parents and students should be aware that there would be agreat deal of emphasis placed on discipline and student behavior. Students are expected tocome to school, work hard on their studies, and behave themselves.David E. Slusher, PrincipalZach Kanaan, Assistant Principal
