Mark Briggs is a recovering sportswriter who discoveredwhat the Internet could do for journalism in 1998 andhas been sharing his enthusiasm with whomever willlisten (and some who won’t) ever since, contributing totextbooks, seminars and conferences on the topic.His day job is Assistant Managing Editor for InteractiveNews at The News Tribune in Tacoma, Washington. Hehas served as Editor of thenewstribune.com since 2004,when he was hired as Strategy and Content Manager forInteractive Media. He came to Tacoma from Everett, Washington, where he ledonline operations at The Herald as Content Manager, New Media Team Leaderand New Media Director. During his four years there, The Herald received severalregional and national awards for online innovation.He has contributed to textbooks, seminars and conferences on new media and journalism, and some of the projects he has led have won regional and nationalawards. In 2002, Briggs received the James K. Batten Innovator Award, andprojects he led at The Herald won first place for innovative use of the mediumin 2003 and 2004.He has a master’s degree in journalism from the University of North Carolinaand a bachelor’s degree from Gonzaga University. He has also served as anadjunct professor at Seattle University.He lives in Tacoma with his wife, son and daughter.
