Agenda

Advanced Pressure Vessels and other Pressure Equipments 21st 25th April 2014, Hotel Istana Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Course Description
Day 1 will provide a quick overview on ASME BOILER AND PRESSURE VESSEL CODE: Section VIII, Division 1, Design and Fabrication of Pressure Vessels including background, organization, design, materials, fabrication, inspection, testing and documentation of pressure vessels. The more commonly used subsections and paragraphs will be covered, and a discussion of individual problems or situations will be included. This half day session is intended for refreshment. Day 2 and day 3 as well as day 4 (3 days in total) will focus on a very detailed elaboration on ASME BOILER AND PRESSURE VESSEL CODE: Section VIII, Division 2, Design and Fabrication of Pressure Vessels, ALTERNATIVE RULES FOR DESIGN AND FABRICATION OF PRESSURE VESSELS. This comprehensive module on Division 2 covers the 2007 Edition of the ASME Code, Section VIII, Division 2. With this Edition, this Code was totally re-written and updated to the latest technology. Some of the design and fabrication rules are totally new and state-of-the-art. Having more refined and more accurate rules, the design margins have been reduced. The use of this new Code could result in considerable savings in materials costs and, in most cases the overall vessel costs. There is a great deal of interest in this international Code and ASME would be promoting its use, worldwide. This course compares the new rules with the old rules of Division 2 and with some other international Codes. The design margins and their effect on required thickness will be explained. The basis and background for the new rules will be discussed. Although the emphasis is on design and analysis rules, all aspects of construction will be covered. Day 5 will familiarize the participants with several post-construction codes and standards, for pressure equipment. It will also provide the background of these documents and hands-on instructions on the use and application. This will provide the participants with adequate background to evaluate any flaws discovered during service of any pressure equipment, and to perform remediation measures. The knowledge may be applied to pressure vessels, boilers, piping, tanks or other pressure equipment. At the conclusion of this course, the participants will be familiar with the requirements of the NBIC and API-510, regarding the inspection and repair/alteration of pressure vessels and other pressure equipment. They will also recognize various degradation mechanisms and their associated failure modes. They will have the background for effective inspection planning, flaw evaluation, application of remediation methods, and cost effective repairs.

Who Should Attend this Course?

Individuals involved with the purchase, design, fabrication, or inspection of pressure vessels. Some degree of technical background will be helpful, but such individuals are not required to have an Engineering degree or previous work experience in the subject matter. Those involved with maintenance, stress analysis, repairs/alterations of vessels and piping will also benefit.
