L.A. Confidential is a film produced in 1997 which was based on the original novel by James Ellroy.

The plot is about a group of police officers in 1953 and the clash of police corruption and Hollywood celebrities. Guy Pearce was the son of famous LAPD detective and he was determined that he was going to be as good as his dad if not better. Because of his persistence and quick manor, his colleagues did not like him and often felt that he was very individual and isolated. He made himself more unpopular by volunteering to give evidence in a police case as he thought this would lead to promotion which he did eventually get but was done so against the advice of his boss.
