What is pst?

Post symposium Tour (PST) is a special tour package designed for Asia Pacific Pharmacy symposium (APPS) participants. This tour is exclusive for a limited number of participants. The main objective is to get the participants to indulge themselves with the uniqueness of the host country, by giving them the opportunity to travel to interesting places with fellow friends from APPS. This year, PST Malaysia will bring the participants to see and feel the essence of Malaysia. In conjunction with the launching of 2014 as a year to visit Malaysia by the Ministry of Tourism, Malaysia has a lot to offer you throughout the year. So, basically this is the best time to visit Malaysia. PST participants will experience the mesmerising coast of Terengganu and the vibrant colours of Penang. Both of these places have their own specialties packed with their own wonder that will bewitched your senses. Penang will marvel you with the city-like life and as food heaven, while Terengganu will offer you eye-pleasing beauty of its island. Not only that, you will also enjoy the side visit to either Pahang or Melaka. It is up to you to choose and experience the joyful moments available only in Malaysia. Malaysia is Truly Asia!

Malaysias Historic City
Melaka had always been the heart of the peninsular Malaysia ever since the glorious era of Malacca Malay Sultanate dated from the 15th century. In addition of the usual ethnics like Malay, Chinese and Indians, you can also find the Peranakan as well as a small group of Eurasians of Portuguese origin. The best of Malacca is that all of these tourist spots are just within walking distances. Take your time and explore Melaka.

The most famous fort in Malacca, the A Famosa Fort contains the remains of the old Portuguese gate house Porta de Santiago, as well as the remaining ruins of Saint Paul's Church. The area around A Famosa Fort has many old military vehicles previously used by Malaysia.

TERENGGANU

This is the highlight of our tour this year. Perhentian Island is being preserved as a priceless emerald of irritable allure. It is situated 10 nautical miles from the coast of Terengganu. We will disembark from Kuala Besut Jetty by a speedboat to Perhentian Island. The island offers an amazing snorkeling experience of crystal clear water. Spectacular marine lives and diverse species of hard and soft corals in the clear and aquamarine water will definitely thrill you. Here, manta rays, reef sharks, barracudas and turtles roam freely in their natural habitats. You will also be brought to other small islands namely Lang Tengah Island, Redang Island and Rawa Island to snorkel and explore the most that these island can offer you.

Visit to Terengganu is not complete if you not visit to Pasar Payang. Labelled as a must-visit spot in Terengganu, Pasar Payang is a great shopping destination and interesting sight to get to know more of Terengganu people. , Pasar Payang is located beside the Terengganu River. You can find everything local and exotic in this massive market housed in modern building complete with a shopping arcade and car park. Feast your eyes on the wide array of traditional textiles like batik and songket, as well as brassware. Do not forget to buy the souvenirs for your loves one here as there are a lot of items that you could choose from.

Cameron Highlands is the largest tea-growing region in Malaysia - home to vast plantations of this valuable crop that carpet the valleys in a lush sea of bright green. Tea was also one of the precursors to its development as a hill station, before its transformation into a major tourist destination. Today, the many tea plantations that dominate the valley are instrumental in drawing the multitudes of visitors Cameron Highlands receives each year. It produces some of the worlds favourite tea labels.

Cameron Highlands is the center of strawberry production in Malaysia. The cold climate makes it suitable for cultivating strawberries all year round throughout the highlands. When in season, many of these farms offer strawberry picking by hand! The popularity of this dainty fruit has also spun a bustling cottage industry that churns out souvenirs, pillows, clothing, keychains, toys and other merchandise in the shape and theme of strawberries which you can you have your own!

Deep in the forest of Cameron Highlands is where aborigines live. Get to know their lifestyle and culture where the tribes uphold it proudly. Those beautiful villages scattered all over the hill in which some of these huts were built on top of the hill entirely with zinc sheets! Also home to hundreds of insect species that you might never encounter before too. You can try the blowpipe and other tools used by them for food hunting and preparation and musical instruments. Above all, you will be exposing to the forest plants and herbs they utilize for medicinal purpose.

A fascinating fusion of the East and West, Penang embraces modernity while retaining its traditions and old-world charm. A virgin paradise that got her name from the abundance of betel nut palms scattered across her soft, sandy beaches, it is recognized as Heritage City by UNESCO. When youre in Penang, the journey never seems to end and the excitement never seems to stop.

At 821m above sea level, Penang Hill Visitor will be privy to some of the grandest colonial mansion. Comprising of Western Hill, Bukit Laksamana, Tiger Hill, Flagstaff Hill and Government Hill, it is located 6 km away from Georgetown. A trip up Penang Hill is something that is not to be missed when visiting this island; a breathtaking panoramic view of the whole island awaits you at the top, as far as the eyes can see.

Arguably the largest Buddhist temple complex in Southeast Asia, Kek Lok Si Temple stands on top of a hill in the little town of Air Itam. Founded more than a hundred years ago, its temple complex is filled with beautifully-landscaped gardens and sacred temples. A striking seventiered pagoda called The Pagoda of 1000 Buddhas which combines Thai, Chinese and Burmese styles in one structure - houses a stunning collection of Buddha statues made from all sorts of precious materials.

Built in 1786, Fort Cornwallis was intended as a defensive structure against pirates, Kedah forces and even the French during the Napoleonic Wars. However although it was initially built for the Royal artillery troops and the military, it served an administrative function rather than an actively defensive one. Spanning 4490sqft it was built as a stockade with no permanent structures. The fort stands on the site where Captain Francis Light first set foot in 1786 on the then virtuallyuninhabited Penang.

With its sandy shores and vast open sea, Batu Ferringhi offers an amazing respite from the hustle and bustle of town. At night, the popular tourist belt comes to life as traders hawk their wares while eateries bring out their best menus to satiate even the most discerning of palates. The Batu Ferringhi night market offers some eye-catching knick-knacks including wood carvings, silver jewellery, and crockery and display items.

C A self-made and affluent merchant-trader, Cheong Fatt Tze left China as a penniless teenager but soon rose to the ranks of the wellheeled when he established a vast financial empire throughout East Asia at the end of 19th century. Despite the popularity of modern Anglo-Indian designs at the time, he chose to build his domicile as a traditional-style Chinese courtyard house. The stately manor has 38 rooms, five granite-paved courtyards, seven staircases and 220 timber-frame windows.

TRAVELLING TIP
1. Tipping is not common in Malaysia, especially in the more rural areas. In most hotels and large restaurants,a 10% service charge is added to the bill along with 6% government tax 2. Although handshakes are generally acceptable for both men and women, some Muslim ladies may acknowledge introductions to gentlemen by merely nodding and smiling. A handshake should only be initiated by ladies. The traditional greeting or salam resembles a handshake with both hands but without the grasp. The man offers both hands, lightly touches his friend's outstretched hands, and then brings his hands to his chest to mean, "I greet you from my heart". The visitor should reciprocate the "salam". 3. The right hand is always used when eating with one's hand or giving and receiving objects. 4. The right forefinger is not used to point at places, objects or persons. Instead, the thumb of the right hand with four fingers folded under is the preferred usage 5. Shoes must always be removed when entering a Malaysian home. Shoes must be removed when entering places of worship such as mosques and temples. Some mosques provide robes and scarves for female visitors. Taking photographs at places of worship is usually permitted but always ask for permission beforehand. 6. Public behaviour is important in Malaysian culture. Most Malaysians refrain from displaying affection (i.e. embracing or kissing) in public. It would be appropriate for visitors to do the same. 7. Drinks are generally offered to guests. It is polite to accept. 8. Toasting is not a common practice in Malaysia. The country's large Muslim population does not drink alcohol.
