Once upon a time, there lived a giant. His name was Brawny.

He had a huge jaw and a long beard. He lived alone on a hill. The villagers stayed in the valley. They did not like him.
One day, some villagers wandered into Brawnys beautiful garden. They stepped on his plants. They also laughed and made fun of him. Brawny was sad. Im so lonely. I have no friends. Not long after, there was a flood. The whole village was flooded. The villagers rushed to the hill for safety. Brawny saw what was happening. Oh, no! I must help the villagers.

A True Friend

Brawny rushed to help the villagers. He also offered them to stay in his big house. The villagers were ashamed. They treated Brawny badly but he still helped them. They asked for forgiveness. The villagers and the giant became friends.

Simple past tense


The simple past tense describes actions that happened in the past.

The simple past tense verbs usually formed by adding ed or d to the base verb.

EXAMPLES:

Base verb walk play talk live invite

Simple past tense walked played talked lived invited

The -ed or -d ending in English has three different sounds:

t: walked, talked, jumped

d: played, loved, answered


id: invited, waited decided

*With id sounding words, there is another syllable!

Why do we use past tense verbs?
