The rapid alerting of all humankind to nuclear realities is supremely urgent. If we are wiped out by nuclear destruction in the next few years, how important arethe things we are doing today?

AUTHOR'S DEDICATIONThis book is dedicated to the Dinosaurs, who mutely warnus that a species which cannot adapt to changingconditions will become extinct.AUTHOR'S FOREWORDTwo events converged on me this summer. Theysupplemented each other and gave me the inspiration andadded push I needed. They made me respond to theurgency I had felt brewing in me for some time to expressmy concern about the worldwide danger of nuclearweapons. The first event was my viewing the videotape "The LastEpidemic," taken at a symposium held in November, 1980on the unacceptability of nuclear weapons for humanhealth. I was deeply impressed by the physicians andscientists who brought their knowledge and eloquence tothat meeting. Their stature and level of experience, insightand courage left no doubt in my mind that my prioritieshad to be rearranged. I had to add my voice and speak outnow! The second experience was my exposure to the HundredthMonkey Phenomenon, which I learned about in talks byMarilyn Ferguson and Carl Rogers. This phenomenonshows that when enough of us are aware of something, allof us become aware of it.2

That concept confirmed my own intuitive trust in the basictenet of my work — that the appreciation and love wehave for ourselves and others creates an expanding energyfield that becomes a growing power in the world. Thisradical new support gives me the counterbalance of hopeto offset the doomsday story of nuclear destruction. There is no need to feel helpless or get paralyzed byhopelessness. We know we have the power to makechanges if we can join together and raise our voices inunison. There is more power in numbers that we everhoped to dream about! I call for us to let our numbersgrow exponentially as we all take it on ourselves to spreadthese messages. We are the bearers of a new vision. We can dispel the olddestructive myths and replace them with the life-enrichingtruths that are essential to continued life on our planet.St. Mary, KentuckyKen Keyes, Jr.December, 19813
