FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Students and Parents,It is with great excitement and anticipation that we begin the 2009-2010 school year at Mt. Erie Elementary School. We are proud of our school and our learning environment as characterized by a spirit of cooperation, purposeful learning, and high standards.Mt. Erie has a long history of excellence, and it is important to us that every student and every parent feel valued and significant inour school. We understand that the school experience will be an incredibly powerful influence on the lives of the children who attend Mt.Erie. We realize the great responsibility this places on us as a staff, and are dedicated to creating an atmosphere that is not onlyconducive to learning, but also helps each child develop a positive feeling of self-worth. Our goal is to build a foundation for futurelearning, to encourage our students to develop the learning habits to become life-long learners, and help develop the qualities theyneed to become successful citizens in their future communities.

Mt. Erie offers many opportunities for parents to become actively involved in the education of their child. You may want to participate as a volunteer in your child's classroom, the library, the computer lab, or in the office. You may wish to become a reader for our younger children. Mt. Erie has an outstanding PTA. They are very active in our school and you are invited to join and participate in this valuable organization. You can also become active in your child's education by attending the school's open house, parent/teacher conferences, and other special events. More importantly, you can encourage your child to do his or her best work eachday, to discover new ideas, and to read of the discoveries and ideas of others. Show your child that you value learning as a lifelongactivity, not something that takes place only for a few hours in school each day. Please take a few minutes and review the information in this handbook with your child. We hope it will provide answers tomany of your questions. Please do not hesitate to call our office at 293-9541 if you have any further questions regarding the operationsor policies at Mt. Erie Elementary School.Thank you for your continued support.Bob Knorr, Principal
