FORECLOSURE AUCTION LIST REDUCED


Dozens of Properties Have Been Redeemed and Removed

KINGSTON, NY APRIL 17, 2014 The list of foreclosed properties has been modestly reduced as property owners rush to redeem their parcels prior to the one day sale at the Annual Public Auction of County Lands to be held April 23, 2014 at SUNY Ulster. The total dollar amount redeemed has been marginally diminished by $596,814 or 12%. In addition, one parcel, the former Ellenville Scrap Iron, with a tax levy of $381,289, has been removed by the request of the Environmental Protection Agency. This reduces the total unpaid tax amount to $3,875,651 from $4,855,289. The number or parcels redeemed/removed is down to 220 from the original 270. This is a 19% reduction in the number of parcels to be auctioned. The Town of Saugerties continues to have the most unpaid parcels with 40. Five have been redeemed to date. Wawarsing and Town of Ulster follow behind with 28 and 23 parcels respectively, after a combined 7 properties were redeemed; 5 from Wawarsing and 2 from the Town of Ulster. The Town of Saugerties also tops the list in total dollars of unpaid taxes contributing $1,019,097 to the $3,875,651 total. Note that this in inclusive of one parcel with a tax lien of $530,000 that is deemed hazardous and has been delinquent for almost 20 years. This property is also the highest unpaid tax parcel on the list. The initial 2014 auction list of 270 properties represented a 28% increase in the number of properties and a 32% increase in the amount of unpaid taxes compared to 2013.
