QUANTUM LEAP"FUGITIVE"July 3, 1976 ACT ONEQUANTUM LEAP IN:INT. MOTEL ROOM - NIGHTSam is standing alone in a small motel room. Not a particularlynice motel room, but not completely run down either. A televisionin the room is showing the local late night newscast. Aside from the TV, the room also contains a bed, a night stand, a dresser,and a mirror. Sam orients himself and immediately heads towardsthe mirror. Before he gets a chance to take a good look, there isa knock on the door.SAMYes?MAID (OS)Housekeeping. I have freshtowels.SAMHold on.Sam walks across the room and opens the door. The MAID enters.She's a pretty woman in her late thirties.SAMThank you.MAIDI'll just leave these in thebathroom for you.SAMThat'll be great.The maid heads for the bathroom and Sam returns to the mirror. Inthe mirror we see a nervous looking middle aged man. The newscastbegins a new story.
 
NEWS ANCHOR (VO)Police in Carter believe thatmurder suspect Barry Stevens may be back in the area thisevening. He was spotted at alocal diner just a few hours ago...The maid exits the bathroom carrying dirty towels. She takes onelook at the television, drops what she's carrying, and suddenlystarts SCREAMING uncontrollably.MAID AAAAhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!Sam turns from the mirror, confused.SAMWhat? What's wrong?MAID AAAHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! It...You're him! It's you! AHhhhh!The maid continues screaming, this time pointing at thetelevision. Sam turns to see that the mug shot on the screen isthe man in the mirror. He turns back to the mirror, where both heand his reflection simultaneously say:SAMOh boy!SMASH CUT TO:MAIN TITLESINT. MOTEL ROOM - NIGHTThe maid continues to scream. Sam is between her and the door.The pair circle each other as she looks for an exit.SAMThis isn't what it looks like.I'm not...MAID(hysterical)D-don't hurt me! I...I won'ttell. Please don't hurt me!
 
SAMI won't hurt you. Calm downThat wasn't me on the news...MAID AAhhhhhhhhhhhhh!SAMIt wasn't...MAID Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh!Sam grabs her by the shoulders, which only makes her scream more.He covers her mouth.SAMI know what you saw there, butit's okay. It's just a mistake.Calm down. I'm not gonna hurt...The door suddenly bursts open. The hotel manager enters, smallpistol in hand.MANAGERLet her go!Sam releases the maid, who immediately starts screaming again.MAID AHHHHHHhhhhhh!She runs over to the manager.SAMI wasn't going to...MANAGERSave it for the cops.SAMIt's a mistake!
