Postal Inspectors Warn: Theft of Mail is a Federal Offense

On Saturday, October 24, 2009, at approximately 11:30 p.m., five P.O. Boxes were broken
into at the Chester Main Post Office in Chester, Maryland 21619. The following P.O. Boxes
were broken into: P.O. Box 132, P.O. Box 138, P.O. Box 142, P.O. Box 143 and P.O. Box
339. One of the previously mentioned boxes is owned by the United Way of Queen Anne’s
County. If you mailed anything to any of the above mentioned P.O. Boxes in Chester, MD
between October 13, 2009 – October 23, 2009, please contact Postal Inspectors at 1-877-
876-2455.

The U.S. Postal Inspection Service is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information
leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect. Persons with information are
encouraged to contact Postal Inspectors at 1-877-876-2455. All callers may remain
anonymous.

Theft of mail is in violation of title 18 section 1708, and is punishable with a fine and
imprisonment up to 5 years. If you have any information about this incident, please call
Postal Inspectors at 1-877-876-2455.

The U. S. Postal Inspection Service and the Maryland State Police are jointly investigating
the case.
