1. Introduction
JXploreris a standards compliant general purpose open source ldap browser that can be used to readand search any ldap directory, or any X500 directory with an ldap interface. This HowTo describes howinstall the JXplorer open source ldap browser on Linux and Windows.
Part 1: Installing JXplorer on CentOS5/RH5
Step 1: Check for Requirements and Download & Install JXplorer
1.Install the Java Runtime Environment., if it is not yet installed, you can verify as follows
 
[root@linuxc ~]# java -versionjava version "1.6.0_16"Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_16-b01)Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 14.2-b01, mixed mode, sharing)[root@linuxc ~]#
2. Download the 
JXv3.2rc2deploy.tar.bz2 
archive athttp://sourceforge.net/projects/jxplorer/files/  3. From the download directory, move the file to /opt directory:
]# mv JXv3.2rc2deploy.tar.bz2 /opt
4. Change to
/opt
directory and issue the following command to extract the download file:
]# tar -xvjf JXv3.2rc2deploy.tar.bz2
5. Change to the
/opt/jxplorer
directory and issue the command below to give the properpermission to JXplorer:
 
]# cd /opt/jxplorer]# chmod +x jxplorer.sh
Step 2: Starting JXplorer
1. Type in the commands below in a terminal window to launch JXplorer.
]# cd /opt/jxplorer]# ./jxplorer.sh
2. In
JXplorer
, click the connect button located in the upper left of the window, or click
File >Connect
, see Fig. 1, to launch
"Open LDAP/DSML Connection"
dialog box.
