TRANSPARENT TRANSISTOR
Imagine a car windshield that suddenly lights up to reveal amap of the city and directions to your next destination !!!Or picture a computer display that you can not only see throughbut also roll into a tube and slip into your coat pocket !!!
Scientists in Japan have taken a major step to fulfillingsuch visions with the creation of a transparent transistordeposited on plastic. HideoHosono and his colleaguesat the Tokyo Institute of Technology developed atransparent semiconductormaterial out of indiumgallium zinc oxide. Althoughother research groups havepreviously madetransparent circuitry, "theirperformance was not sogood," says Hosono. Incontrast, prototypetransistors made from histeam's new material are 10 times as conductive as the silicontransistors used in today's liquid-crystal displays. Hosonoattributes his material's success to the greater mobility of electrons when a voltage is applied.

Interesting. is this for real? The doc looks a bit 'cartoony' and fake. But nevertheless, I like it.
