The impression could arise that the Trinitarian dogma is in the last analysis a late 4th-century invention.

I am going to take this a step further, for the original poster. In order for Dale's words to be correct, Abraham would have had to have seen the Father. This makes a liar out of Jesus the Christ; John 6:46 Not that any man has seen the Father, except he who is from God; this one has seen the Father. No man has ever seen the Father, according to Jesus Christ. Then take it from one other point of view; the Trinity dogma is simple; there is only one God, but He is three. That does not mean that the three can stand separate, for even the dogma clearly states that even while the Christ was here on earth, he was also in heaven. That has to be a part of the dogma, or then the Father was on earth as well. He was not. Again, this is really not a difficult subject, if you will only study the Truth of Scripture, and stop listening to men.

You are correct about one thing; Constantine WAS clarifying an ancient truth. Plato was not the originator of this 'belief;' it started long before him. Triads, or trinities, were common in Babylon and Egypt. And the efforts of churchmen to attract unbelievers in the Roman world led to the gradual incorporation of some of those ideas into Christianity. This eventually led to acceptance of the belief that the Son and the holy spirit were equal to the Father. The trinity is an idea that was and is common to all of the religions that Jehovah God finds so abhorent, going back to the original days of Babylon. A close study of the subject would reveal these Truths to anyone who wished to do the work necessary to understand.

Oh yes, nasty old Constantine and his 4th Century cock-up. Actually, you could argue that Constantine was clarifying an ancient truth. And perhaps the time had come (from God's point of view) for this truth (the three-in-one truth) to be made manifest. I said, you could argue that the trinity was an ancient truth. Here it is. In Genesis. The setting. Abraham, the nomad, is an old man without an heir. God visits him to tell him that his wife, Sarah, will conceive in her old age. Whoa! Heavy stuff. 1: And the LORD appeared unto Abraham him in the plains of Mamre, as he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day; 2: And Abraham lifted up his eyes and looked, and, lo, three men stood by him: and when he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door, and bowed himself toward the ground, 3: And said, My Lord, if now I have found favour in thy sight, pass not away, I pray thee, from thy servant: 4: Let a little water, I pray you, be fetched, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree: 5: And I will fetch a morsel of bread, and comfort ye your hearts; after that ye shall pass on: for therefore are ye come to your servant. And they said, So do, as thou hast said. 6: And Abraham hastened into the tent unto Sarah, and said, Make ready quickly three measures of fine meal, knead it, and make cakes upon the hearth. 7: And Abraham ran unto the herd, and fetcht a calf tender and good, and gave it unto a young man; and he hasted to dress it. 8: And he took butter, and milk, and the calf which he had dressed, and set it before them; and he stood by them under the tree, and they did eat. 9: And they said unto him, Where is Sarah thy wife? And he said, Behold, in the tent. 10: And he said, I will certainly return unto thee according to the time of life; and, lo, Sarah thy wife shall have a son. And Sarah heard it in the tent door, which was behind him. Three men visit him. Who are those guys? As the song says... Three men I admire the most, Father, Son and Holy Ghost Took the last train to the coast The day the music died...

rich51: Dale, I take it you did not read the information, but only wished to revisit old information, which very few would view in any manner as being three in one, as all three are clearly stated as being separate beings, each one eating and drinking -- separately. That is not possible under the Trinity dogma. The sad fact is that most people have no clear idea of what the Trinity really is. 10/31/2009
